View Full Version : Transmission Swap?

I am almost sure the AOD is toast. Cardoc says their guy that rebuilds their transmissions for customers (Kevin @ Deans) charges 800-1200 to rebuild.

I looked around online and I can get an AOD for $600-$800 ready to go. Has anyone ever done it like this? Just buy an already rebuilt one? Any suggestions on different places? Fort Worth Transmission Supply quoted $625 w/ exchange.

why not swap a C6 into it? You really need over drive?

I saw you heading south on 21 sunday. We were coming back from austin.

Core charge for one. I guess I could research the compatibilty in going to a C6. I dunno waht effect it would have on the ecm, or whether it would bolt up to the stock crossmember.

I am going to drive over and talk to the ft worth supply place tomorrow and talk to the builder about building a slightly stronger aod

I have a c-6 core if you need one. I'll do way less than whatever a core is worth.

It won't affect the ecm. When I put the zf in my f150 I had to jump the park neutral switch, but I'm betting the c6 has one. I think the only part that would be different compared to a factory c6 truck would be the shift indicator on the dash.

So I talked to this transmission builder, and he suggested going with a c6:flipoff2:

Will the BW1356 bolt up to the C6? He said he didnt think it would.

that c6 had a bw 1356 behind it

Thats what I thought. SO the only thing I might have to change would be the neutral safety switch?

TMatheaus

or bypass it

damnit, this guy is telling me that the extension housing is different from an AOD. Maybe I find someone in CS that knows more

Isn't your bronco an pre 87? They came with c-6's and BW1356s If you ran into problems just find a crossmember in a junk yard. Just do it I seriously dout you will run into many problems.

Hell you could drop the trans, pick up mine and test fit (suposed to work fine) then decide if you want to rebuild a c6 or aod.

86 302s were EFI, it was the first year, They came with AOD.

I want it done sooner rather than later adn work is kicking my ass. I am only home on weekends. AOD can be rebuilt for 650 at Deans. Still thinking about it.

FSB says that I might have to do some junkyard hunting for a few other things to make the c6 work.

I ment that ford still have some that came with c-6's in 86, not that yours did. FSB is funny.

yeah fsb has some good info, but it also has some d-bags that regurgitate something they heard from some other guy. They said i couldnt run crossover steering on 6 inches of lift and get the angles right. they were wrong.

i dont think all 86 302's were EFI. i know that mine was as was my dads. i know that some, if not all, 86 351's were carbed.

at any rate, the AOD is plenty strong. just get it rebuilt...
