{For the Calendericaly Challenged (John Brown)] This will be the 22-26th (Thursday through Monday) of May 2008

It's gettin close folks, so I figured it was as good a time as any to get this started. I would like to get some input on the route everyone took last time to see which one is better roads and if my mapping software has it routed correctly. There are two ways to leave College Station, one down 21, the other up to Hwy. 79. The 21 is shorter by a few miles, but I haven't been that way in a while so I don't know how the roads are that way. The hwy. 21 would put us south of Austin also which I believe would be a big plus.

Last time I went, I ended taking 290 up to Fredricksburg, then cutting down 16 to Kerrville before hitting I10. On a map it looks like it might be shorter going all the way down 290 to kerrville, but several of my family members from the area suggested 16 as the quickest way.

At this point I will most likely have a open seat up there and back as well as on the trail. If Ed comes down 21 thursday, I will most likely meet him somewhere near dimebox and follow him from there. I plan on staying until Monday morning unless I break

I agree with feller that going through fredricksburg is quick, its the way that I went, pluss fredricksburg has some great food and its nice to stop and eat

also I will confirm that hyw 21 is good road untill 77 after that I am not sure

I can confirm that 21 is good to 290 at least, especially since they widened the road between caldwell and dime box. Its been a long time since I went all the way to bastrop and then to austin though.

BTW, for anyone who hasn't been yet. Once you get past kerrville, you still have a ways to go, and there isn't much out there other than big steep hills that really suck the gas until you get to the ranch, so I would definitely suggest filling up in Kerrville or Fredericksburg

The way I understand it from reading thier site and listening to guys who've been there before is that they serve three meals on saturday and sunday, all catered with lots of food. I think for lunch its more of a cold food thing served out at a centralized meeting point near the trails. Ed, do you want to email them and get a confirmation on this?

One thing I am curious of is whether the entrance fee covers you raffle tickets, or if you only get one and can buy more.

Trees BIG run is the annual TEXAS TWISTER. This off-road blowout is held every Memorial Day weekend and 2007 marked the fourth year of this popular event. This event combines a weekend full of wheeling with some of the best food in the country. Our guests are treated to three catered meals daily (Sat-Sun). We wrap up the weekend with a raffle, giving away over $2500 in prizes.

I will have to check on the raffle tickets

I let them know yall were sending your payments in, just make sure yall get them in by the 19th to keep your spot on the list. He said it is costing them $80/head for the caterers, so hopefully they will have some good grub.

The raffle tickets are $1/each and you get one with your registration. He said they had two winches for it already and plenty of other "stuff" so maybe we can make out alright in it.

If you send it by snail mail, it will be fine. Hell, if the USPS can get a package 9000 miles away into a 'war' zone in 6 days, they should be able to get a letter across the state in a day or two. ;)

okay, just give me a call on the number listed in my sig when you leave BCS. Is anyone who is going familiar with Dime Box? As you pass through on 21 there is a gas station on your right (only one in the area). About a mile past this there is a green metal building on the right that used to be a steakhouse. I'll be waiting there. You guys can just pass on by and I will catch up unless you need to stop for any reason

We are getting close to being ready, just have to get the new axle shims in to replace the old ones. The axle wrap can then be finished. The axle shafts are in (the busted shafts sure did a number on the top of the bottom kingpin, going to have to rebuild them sooner or later and will put new bearings in when I do this). The Long CV's are super beefy, the pictures just do not do them justice at all. We had to replace the distributor, cap and coil yesterday because the old one had 'bent' internally some how and was wearing to one side for some reason. Once we got the wires back in the right order she fired right back up, so just need to time it a little and see where we are at. There is a little bit of wiring to be done, but nothing that will keep it from wheeling. Creighton has a little work to do on his trailer, but nothing an hour or so of grinding and a BFH won't take care of. ;) The BBCS shocks are on, just have to get some new hardware today and finish welding the support tubes. The seats and harnesses need to be reinstalled, and she should be ready to wheel.
