I think there are boring-looking trucks. I personally do not like the interiors.

Owning a full-size pickup truck with a motor smaller than 5.0L means you are no longer a man.

At least according to the internet. :flipoff2:

well than thats kind of a good thing then because the primary driver would be a 17 year old girl, my sister. I don't get it whats with parents and little girls, she only totalled a grand cherokee less than a week ago and they want to rush out and buy her this. Like its going to be any better. HA. And sh*t I still drive the cj for a dd, wheres my $14 dream truck. Fing little sisters.

Your dream truck only costs $14? Sweet!

Other than that, we've never had any real issues with the Dodges we've owned, and I'd imagine the 4.7L would be better on gas than any of the other Hemis.

And I wish I had a nice CJ for a DD, so quitcher*****in. :gigem:

A dodge is a dodge. That being said I have a buddy who drives something just like that. Its still going strong, which really impresses me. This dude totaly wore out a f-150 in a year, not because he used it as a work truck. Yall will be happy with the 4.7 (that is the size under "HEMI" right?).

accord is what i actually said.

But shes most likely going to college in montana and she has to get her horse up there, so instead of paying a company to haul it this is the route "they" decided.

I have an 06 Durango with the 4.7 and I haven't had any problems and it pulled the scout to clayton and home no problem. Mpg isn't to bad either, I get around 18-19 on highway and 14ish in town.

Mini Vans can pull a trailer, get her that...

Avoid 1990 Dodges, the have a tendency to violently explode transmission parts....

What I learned when I blew up the engine in Pigpen was that if you ruin a vehicle you get an equally ****ty truck but this time it has A/c and 4wd!

jerryg79

if she's going to montana, 4x4 would be preferable, take it from someone who spent 2 years up north in a 2wd.

how bigga horse trailer is she going to be hauling? She rodeo, show, or just ride?

85cj7
06-05-2008, 02:24 PM
she will only be hauling a 2 horse so around 5000 lbs only. She rides and does some cutting as well.

DRAGOONRANCH
06-05-2008, 02:55 PM
If she will end up seeing much mountain driving up where she is going then that truck will be towing just about all it wants up there. It should be a decent truck for what she is wanting though. My main recomendation would be trailer brakes if they are not already on there (this is "irregardless" of the terrain, just lots more safety cushion).

DRAGOONRANCH

My map of the area looks like it is atleast pretty hilly there.

Oh, and make sure to atleast repack the bearings on the trailer and if you can't remember when you repacked them last, go ahead and replace them. That is one hellufa drive to be taking chances on (1400 miles with a horse).

tell her to ride the big yellow bus and learn how to drive. then give her a yugo.

i wish i could total my truck and my parents would buy me something newer and better:rolleyes:

that being said. the only way to get a dodge is if it has a 'C' on the side. shouldnt be a problem for your sister, but i often find my self hitting my head on the a-pillar/visor. back seat is only good for storage.

the back seat sucks, its fine for someone ~5'6", but its uncomfortable for anyone close or over 6' tall. especially if anyone in the front seat is 6' tall.

interesting, i would disagree, now if you were talking about a 98 gm truck then i might agree.

i realize that, the two trucks are equal in everything but head room and leg room, ie you can stretch out more in the dodge.

dodge
Rear Head Room: 40 in.
Rear Shoulder Room: 66.7 in. Rear Hip Room: 64.6 in.
Front Leg Room: 41 in. Rear Leg Room: 36.4 in.
Maximum Seating: 6

1998 chevy

Rear Head Room: 38 in.
Rear Shoulder Room: 67.6 in. Rear Hip Room: 66.1 in.
Rear Leg Room: 28.7 in.

so you agree?

Doug Krebs

riding in the back of Jerry's dodge for me is very tolerable even on further trips like clayton. If we were in his old chevy I think I'd have to be removed from the truck as I wouldn't be able to walk for sometime.

jerryg79
06-05-2008, 10:20 PM
so you agree?

i agree that a quad cab is closer in size to the 3 door ext cab in question than to a crew cab, yes.

However as i showed above the quad cab is still larger than the 98 ext cab which was my original argument. Plus those numbers dont show the ergonomics which have improved as well between the two designs.

this motor really gets a bad rap, me and my pops both have 6.0's that have had zero problems. people run these trucks too hot (1300+ egts) with a few simple emissions mods you can make them very reliable. we also tow with our trucks quite a bit I just keep the egt reasonable and boost below 30 and they do fine.

If a headgasket blows after mods then I don't see how you could call it the motor's fault.

Ryan, if you have full coverage, I'm sure there are a few folks in this club who can learn you on the finer points of insurance buy back, then you would have a wheelin rig too!
