... Maybe I'm just cheap, but is there anyplace available for camping? Its usually allot cheaper to go that route.

So the distance is 371 miles roughly from Bryan to Clayton. Google estimates a drive of just under 6 and a half hours.

Motels in Clayton are cheap as camping in the real world :) - You will want to be at the A&A ALL NIGHT, that's a big part of this trip.

Of course, if we book the whole hotel, he'll probably let you camp there too... He has been really cool with us in the past (hopefully that hasn't changed now that they got the interweb).

One of the officers needs to call the A&A NOW and let them know to book the whole hotel for us.

we briefly discussed this, A&A can manage hotel reservations much more efficiently than us, and it puts liability for no shows on the individual and not the club. Call the A&A directly to book a room after figure out who you are splitting it with.

8Runner
09-28-2008, 07:36 PM
Ok, I called & reserved a room for Hayley & I in the main building. I still think an officer should call and try to negotiate their holding the whole hotel for members of TAMOR. A couple years ago we did this and they gave us $5 off per room per night for booking the whole place. We still reserved rooms individually, they just held them for us.

I asked and so far they are wide open other than the 3-4 people that called today.

X2 - take it. If you plan on driving it there and back, bring a few spare critical parts (U-joints, U-joint straps, front axle shafts etc...) What rear axle do you have?

Also - you will be with a group of people loaded with spare parts and knowledge that will make anything work, and show you how to fix things.

Hmmm... unfortunately I have a D35...
I guess I will need some help turning up some cheap shafts...

I would plan on driving it, but I might have access to a tow vehicle if I really need one. Makes more since financially for me to drive out there if I don't break anything...

off topic:

Oh, and the RX-7... Well I haven't ran it... but theoretically, if I can lay down a decent 60 ft I think mid-low 11's sounds reasonable. (with my little street tires)

I know a guy (well on the internet), that ran a high ten on a street tire, in a full weight rx at only 400hp... So its all in the driving, and tire set up I guess. If I had experience at the track, and some radials, I would say tens... However, that is a dangerous claim, since I haven't even ran at the track before..

There is a build thread in the Tech section.

Anybody with an extra trailer spot? The Escalade is officially for sale (http://www.swapalease.com/VEHICLESEARCH/VehicleDtlL.asp?VehicleID=460911) and we plan on buying a replacement tow vehicle (prolly back to a 3/4 ton Suburban) by the end of the year to take advantage of some tax incentives, but we don't know if we'll have it in time and if the Escalade doesn't sell, we really shouldn't take it because we are already over on the miles.

As of right now, we have a room reserved Thursday - Sunday, but that is not for sure yet due to work considerations.

Does your trailer have brakes on it Scotti?

No, it's set up for adding drums, but I have never even remotely needed them with the ~2000lb buggy, even through Mountain passes.

Speaking of which, I don't necessarily even need someone else's trailer spot if they are willing to tow my bumper pull trailer.

Yeah that's what I was gettin at.

Scotti, I noticed you're headin up that Night. I could wait up for you and give you a tow up if you needed.

I appreciate the offer & may take you up on it. It kind of depends on my vehicle situation - if I end up with a badass new tow vehicle, I'll probably take it, but I likely won't have it yet.

That said, if we really are going to plan on this we need to hook it up here in town and see how it really tows. Despite what I said above, there really isn't much difference between your max capacity and what this weighs, and from past experience, when you get even close to max capacity towing can be stressful and take some skill. Have you towed with the H3 before?

is it a yj or cj windshield?

I've still got my CJ windshield sitting around. the bolt flange things are in different places, they use different seals, and there are defroster ducts.

I agree with Jerry, I think you are ready for the big rigs. Hey if you guys want I will see if you can borrow my friend Ron's Death Trailer.

The Death Trailer fish tails if you just look at it. I once launched a 1990 minivan off the back of it. It is super sweet.

The closest I've come to towing with my truck would be ripping someone out of a ditch with a chain.

I'd love to get together for a learning lesson though if you're up.

I don't mind giving you a trailering lesson whether we end up using it on the trip to Clayton or not... lets talk when it gets closer or maybe we can try it out on a local trip to 47 or something.

While I agree with not trying to jump in that much this close, at least try to find you some spare shafts and joints though. There is enough of us with winches to be able to drag you around on some of the harder stuff. The lockers will more than likely just get you into positions to break your shafts quicker right now.

Per request, we have about 18 rigs and 40 people by my count. It is probably a little low as there are still people who have not posted up yet, and others who are still on the fence about things and I haven't put them on the list yet.

EDIT:I added this to the bottom of the first post. Lots of folk coming, but there are a bunch more still to come I am sure.

Well, I am buying the 44, its not installed. As the bank account sits, I should have 650 after the 44...
My income is a little inconsistent, but I would really like to at east have the 44 in. And if I'm doing that I'm locking and re-gearing...

I'm bringing the gf with me if it matters...

Are there going to be very many people wheeling on a similar level as me?

Ok don't buy rocker guards. Get some 5"x3"x1/4" angle iron from Byran Iron and metal. Buy/offer money for beer and find someone to help you make rocker guards, they are ridiculously simple to make and bolt to the tub of the jeep.

I will bring some extra axle shafts and if you need them I will sell them to you there so don't spend your money on them right now.

Really I wouldn't do anything else this time around, it will teach you to drive better and figure out what you really want.

Just get out there on the trail with us and let that help drive your decesion on what to do in the future. No need to build a Jeep three times, just figure out where you really want to be in the future and build that. Replace / rig with cheap parts till you can get there

like 299 to 330 a gallon that works for me its not a huge torch but its not a small one either perfect size for moving around... you dont have any ideas on a place to lock it i would be realy pissed if it grew legs if you know what i mean...

You can always store the bottles in the room while we are out on the trail, or just slide em in someones back seat. (atleast I think a fullsize oxygen bottle will fit back there.)

I have a crew cab and there will be a few others also, so that is no problem.

They usually try to pull out of McD's about 9-9:30 or so and I will be leaving the ranch (northwest of Calvert) about that same time. I am sure Robbie and Sharpe could answer the McD's time a little better than me though.

For the love of god try to get as much loaded and prepared to go the night before. If you start loading at 9 there is no way in hell you will leave before noon. I have been on many TAMOR trips and getting my sh!t together in any respectable amount of time has always been a challenge.

I assume a CJ7 fits if a CJ8 does. Jeep must be less than 7' wide. It is definitely a one seater.

I called the A&A to get a room back when everyone else was but no one answered... The next day they were booked. So yeah, I'm looking for floor space unless a room opens up.

Travis- I prefer towing the BarnBurner with the dodge because I go a little faster than most. That is unless you just want to tow it.

Tongue isn't short, probably longer than most. Trailer is 12'. It has sway control. I assume your truck has a receiver hitch.

Ford would be sitting in Amelia LA. Dodge is available for rent if you need a real truck instead of a toy.

Still not certain on not going.

For better or worse, I just got off the phone with Rose at Clayton City hall.

She remembers us well, and said we are more than welcome to participate in the Christmas parade again this year (on the 13th). So those of you that are so inclined, bring decorations for your rigs.

She is also going to let the area businesses know so that they might stay open over the weekend (or close up shop, grab their daughters, and run for the hills).
