Ok, on the radius arm, the bushing and the middle heim are for the top. The heim is 1/2". Is this going to be too small for the top link?

run bushings at all points except the end that mounts to the frame. It is a waste to run them at other points, rotation isn't possible

Reckless
10-07-2008, 05:50 PM
they came with the trade and too much of a joo to buy some bushings. will they survive?

robertf03
10-07-2008, 05:53 PM
they'll wear out. bushings are cheaper than replacement heims.

Reckless

Im going to run it for now till it either wears out or breaks

I would say no, but that rod end looks to have more mass than most. 1/2" bolt should be fine.

I'd use a bushing just to give it an extra point to flex. That's a binding suspension so the bushings have to give when it flexes. Works fine for me.

What size tube are those lower links? Look a little small.

Reckless
10-07-2008, 07:48 PM
its 1/4 wall, cant think of the OD right off hand

I dont think it is gonna be thick enough for lower links rowdy, i would sleeve it with 1.75" .120 wall hrew

Why no hydroboost brakes?

Graystroke
10-12-2008, 11:11 AM
looking at your front shock mount....will it bind (hit the side of the tube) on your mount as the suspension cycles. it's going to move front to back and looks close.

Reckless
10-12-2008, 11:15 AM
yea but i think it will be ok. that was one of my issues but it bad comes to worse ill bend them out a bit. The vacuum boost was free and didnt have a hydroboost setup around.

hoops would look better. remember, these are not just shocks, they are carrying the vehicle weight. a cross brace may be in order. that frame doesnt look like very rigid. is it even boxed?

Reckless
10-12-2008, 01:36 PM
its boxed from the factory. hoops are defantly in order. there will be a cross brace.

How bout using johnny joints on the shackle end of the springs. i have a set of johnny joints laying around and dont feel like buying bushings at the moment. Ive heard mixed reviews from the toyota peeps so any input will be apprecated.

On another note: Does anybody have a set of shock hoops for sale. Garrett sold his apperantly so im in need of a set.

I have seen suspension kits where there is a pivot bolt running parrallel to the frame for Chevies and people that have used them say they are horribly unstable on the road so I would say no to the JJ's.

You shoulda ordered the shock hoops from the CC Fab shop or what ever he is calling it nowdays. I had plenty of bushings also in the barn but getting GM to ship the right ones would have been interesting to say the least. :D

doh...I missed a page. I thought you were contributing that to the link discussion :D

Seems to me the revolver shackle problems would be accentuated with thinner, higher-arched springs, and less of a problem with flatter, wider springs.

I need some advice on welding the front and rear. Do i just burn off the oil with a torch and weld up with a mig or would stick be better? Can i weld it up in the housing or does it need to be out? Ill get pics up of what i have done but the camera took a sh!t on me

CheapJeep
11-06-2008, 12:58 AM
I used brake cleaner to help clear the oil out. You can leave the carrier in the housing, just have to watch for slag/spatter on the ring gear and make sure to clean it out thoroughly with a magnet. I used a mig, worked fine.

DRAGOONRANCH
11-06-2008, 03:46 AM
Either way will work fine, if you use a mig though allow a little extra time for cooling. You can use the torch to blacken the ring gears with the soot from the acetylene to help keep the BB's from sticking also.

RCcola55
11-06-2008, 04:00 AM
take the time to take it out, clean it real well. start by welding the spiders together put it back in to make sure it all line up. Pull it back out then just start welding the **** out of it, but go slow so you dont over heat the bearings, then bury in sand for a day or two to let it cool slowly and to avoid craking.
