I think I want a canoe, maybe a kayak. Mostly for dicking around at Scoutfourk, but also there is some pretty prime looking fishing on lavon really close to some boat ramps. Anyone ever use a Water Wagon, they look pretty cool too. Let me know what you have, thinking less than $200.

how much **** did you give me for wanting one a few years ago?

lets get a tandem and save money

You wanted it to yuppy it up on White Rock Lake on top of your LR. I want it to go fishing like a white trash redneck, and to make managing my pond easier. I wish you would have bought one, you would be about ready to Flem it out by now! ;)

I can probably find you a kayak next time I go back to houston. Any size/style preferences?

that would have been something, I would have paid money to watch that attempt.

I enjoyed canoeing when I went to Mizzou last summer and thought it would be cool. I know absolutely nothing about canoes or kayaks. I won't ever be near the ocean with it more than likely. I know on the pond I want to use it to sink structure, set out/retrieve decoys, fish etc. so I might need some room.

I would bet you would get the most use out of a sit on top kayak, I can probably find something pretty cheap that will do decent for short trips in smooth water.

I have spent quite a bit of time on both and much prefer a kayak. I dont know whats out there that is considered "cheap" for a kayak though. My experience with them has been limited to Ocean Kayaks. They straight up kick ass but are prety steep in price. I do know for a fact that they can withstand flying out of the back of a truck at ~60 miles per hour and landing on the side of the road.

when I was looking the only thing I found affordable was inflatable

most consider ocean kayaks to be cheap... However I fish the hell out of the cheapest of cheap which is the green pelican at academy. I might not be able to go as fast but never really had a balance problem.

I disagree with yall, Jimmy if you are look to throw a bunch of decoys, various car parts i.e. structure and want to be able to move around in it, ide go with a canoe preferably one in the 17ft range. They even make them with transoms so you attach a smal trolling motor when you feel real lazy.

That's cool, maybe I'll use that out at Scoutfourk and get a kayak for fishing at the lake. One with a transom would be cool if I felt lazy and wanted to put a little trolling motor on there.

Cheap compared to what other brands? I've only kayaked in the bay and surf around Port Aransas and a sit inside kayak would suck ass for that I think. I havent relaly messed around with any others, the two Oceans my mom have worked for casual fishing.

this is what I got. mine is older and not a fold up though. It has a wood frame w/ some kind of vinyl stretched over it. What I like about these type of kayaks is that they are effortless to paddle, can carry a crap load of gear, and are super stable and will keep you dry. the only negative is mine is heavy and the bottom doesn't like sharp rocks.

those are white water kayaks...I think jimmy wants more of a touring/fishing kayak

those kayaks are real unstable aren't they? and they track like **** so they can turn on a dime in white water. I think they are a PITA on any kind of flat water where actual paddling is required. they are more of a sit and let the current guide you along type deal and then paddle to redirect change directions.

Blue boat came with plans to build a cheap and easy glass over plywood canoe.

I thought about that, then thought it sounded heavier than an alumimum one.

here's what mine looks like. I bought mine for $150 from a friend of mine at a fly fishing swap meet.
Mine has a red hull and yellow top. My Dad has one also. He built his from a kit. Mine was already built. You can find them every once in a while. Check Austin Craig's List...lots of tree huggers that are into that kind of thing plus Lake Travis is always crammed w/ these kind of boats.
You are more than welcome to try it out to see if you like it.

We used to have a canoe but it was fiberglass and sat in our backyard for 20 yrs flipped over on saw horses. My dad had an aluminum before that but he almost died on a river one time when it got sideways in a rapid and the canoe folded in half around a rock. Good story.

Karl's uncle has a pink canoe, its a story of expiramental surgeries and one man's strife to become a woman, but i've probably divulged too much private family history already.

I would think a botched "pink taco conversion" would end up with something more like a pink burrito, or maybe a pink chalupa?

I used both canoes and kayaks as a kid in scouts. They were cheap but worked fine for lake trips and river runs. Canoes suck when you get paired with the fat kid to go down a river, I would much rather have a kayak and ride solo.
