That thing's sweet. Flem should take out a loan and sell his three discoveries.

I had to google what movie it was that I remembered seeing a yellow D90 in... She's All That.:rainbow:

Ahh...you could have done that as of January 1 of THIS year. When you start finding '84 90s and 110s for $1,500 delivered to Galveston let me know - I'll take ten of them.

robertf03

wallenes willemson or something like was $1500 England to Galveston

I'm not counting purchase price

no nineties until 84, there have been quite a few people willing to sit on them until jan 1st on ebay.co.uk

I'm not knocking your price Kevin, I'm talking about a ROW ****box and not a NAS 90

$1,500 for shipping...I thought you meant you were finding '84s for that much. No, no 90s till '84 - I guess most people out there are more excited about importing a 110 (the '83s have been coming all year) rather than a 90.

I didn't think you were knocking the price. NAS Defenders will always command a premium over gray market trucks. Different strokes for different folks. I'm sure I'll buy another within a year or two. I'll probably go for a cheap import next time around.

i dunno why everyone s looking for land rovers in the UK. (i know they are prevalent over there...like chevy's)
1. they are going to be rust buckets...i read somewhere in a mag that the avg life for a car over there is around 8 yrs b/c it just starts falling apart from rust. Aluminum and steel makes it that much worse. I guess that's why the MOT's are so strict.
2. they are all RHD. I sure as hell wouldn't want one like that. I know you can convert but why? Say your LR actually had enough balls to pass a 1988 VW van, Have you ever thought how much it would suck to pass on a two lane road. I guess you have to have a passenger to pull it off.

South America is the place to look! I have connections down south! And it's probably cheaper to ship...just smuggle it in in a load of soy beans. call me for a quote!

I think for the most part people are importing right now from the UK for two reasons - 1 - '83s and '84s are hard to come by and there are more in the UK than anywhere else so as time goes by it will be easier to source them from countries with better climates and LHD and - 2 - People in the UK sort of speak English. France, Germany and The Netherlands are also easy places to find Defenders which are LHD and less destroyed by climate. Central and South America will be the best but no one I know of so far has connections to find the trucks - much less broker the shipping back to Galveston.

It really matters not to me whether mine would be LHD or RHD. It wouldn't be a daily driver so I don't care. I would prefer one that's not a rust bucket though. Some of these ones coming from the UK so far have already had new frames, bulkheads and modern Tdi engines installed as well. They're not cheap however.

I have a whetto friend that lives in costa rica and speaks fluent spanish..he's also well versed at shipping things such as ships full of soy beans...which is much more a pain in the ass (shipping agricultural goods/ once living vs. non/ living)

What happens Jan 1?

It becomes 2009, makin 1984 model year vehicles become 25 years old. I assume some '84 variaton of the limey mobiles is particularly desireable and Flem is scheming his way into importing one?

Yep. Once a vehicle is over 25 years old you can import it without it being a PITA. 1983 was the first year of the current incarnation of the Defender. The long wheelbase 110 model first, then the short wheelbase 90 in 1984. Until now you could only import older pre-Defender models which were leaf sprung. There is very little difference between a 1984 Defender 90 and a 2009 Defender 90. Until now the only way to legally import a Defender was to federalize it which meant only 1993 model 110s and 1997 Defender 90s - and it cost an additional $20-$30 grand to federalize it once it got here.

I've thought about this too. I want a 100" hybrid, and US frames are cheap and unrusty. Maybe cut the ****er up and UPS it over 1 piece at a time.

technically 1983 was the land rover 110 and 1984 was the land rover 90. Defender name wasn't used until 1990. So if you really want a defender you have to wait 6 more years.:p

my truck I'm bringing over is gonna be a 110 hi-cap pick-up

Final price reduction - $24,000 - otherwise it gets traded for a new Range Rover by the end of the week.

With the deal I have worked out right now it would be right at $21,000 for the trade.

That's unbelievable. Land Rover's have got to be the most finnicky resale vehicle on the market. Discovery's don't seem to hold any value at all, and yet your Defender has an amazing resale value (I am sure in a little different economic time it would have gone at your asking price). Good luck.

How much did one of these cost in 1995?

Graystroke
02-11-2009, 09:03 PM
in 95 a soft top it was $28,650 plus destination. AC, full cage, and full soft top were extra. it came w/ bikini as standard. 1190 soft tops were brought over in 1995, 1943 in '94, none in '96 b/c of OBDII crap, and 1499 in '97..that's it...that's why the resale is so good. plus nothing else brought over to the US even looks remotely similar so it is pretty unique. the were a few hundred each year of the wagons. those or fewer.

Gone. Belongs to Land Rover Houston North now. As much as I hated to get rid of it I barely ever drove it. I only took it off road once (and it tried to kill Grayson and me). With the economy the way it is I wasn't able to convince myself or my accountant that I should have it and a newer Range Rover for a daily driver - and that won out considering I can't drive clients around in a 2 seater D90.

Here's the new one,

The Defender or the Range Rover? No on both counts. There is a yellow D90 that lives in Tomball that it could have been.

1.) No. They are the suck. That's why people pay the big bucks for them.

2.) Yes. In Shadow Lake.
