EDIT: Alto Sept 4-7th (Labor Day Weekend)

Ok, plans changed on me pretty quick after I started the last thread, so I figured I best just start a new one and have good info in it from the beginning. Should be a good weekend out there if it's not too terribly hot. As of now, we have two rigs (and maybe a four wheeler) going out. My chevy and Creighton's (aggietj2007) won-tonned TJ. We both have a tendancy to mash the stupid pedal, and Alto seems to really bring it out in both of us so come out and have a beer and 'lets get retarded in heyha'!

I may need to come home and take care of some drivers license issues, and making a trip to Alto or General Sams. The New Mexico Game weekend would be a good 'first trip' to 47 on Sunday (Labor Day weekend), and then off to Alto the next weekend. It will be all contingent on me making this trip on what the DL office in aggieland says about the driving test for a CDL. (Were you bus drivers able to take the driving test the same day as the written?)

cant take the driven till the written is passed. To my knowledge its usually a day or 2 later. WTF do u have to get a dl here for? And I say the second weekend.

I think you take the written as a walk-in and then make an appt for CDL driving part...find you a 28' pup for your driving portion...no curbs can be hit then. one curb hit and you fail. only sucky part is parallel parking that short little thing. It's kinda like trying to back a 4'x8' trailer hitched to a crew cab dulley.

I was going to call them and see if they will just let me take it in my dually w/ the 32' gn. Just tell them I am going to hot shot in something like that. I meant to call them, but the lady from Austin called me back today to tell me since I have a class A that I will have to come in to renew it anyways. She said it was a CDL, but my license is a non-comercial for sure. I don't have any clue what so ever on when or how it ended up being a class A, I never really paid attention to that I guess.

Have I told yall how much I hate all this extra .gov going around??? If they can't even figure out what license I have, then how do they figure they will be smart enough to be building cars? :(

Operators of Class A or B vehicles who are exempt from the commercial Driver License Act may renew by mail. If you qualify for a class A or B non-CDL, please complete the CDL-2 (Exemption Certification) (ftp://ftp.txdps.state.tx.us/forms/cdl-2.pdf) form.

After a few e-mails, I think we are going to go ahead and hit Alto on Labor Day weekend. The redneck watching should be superb!

you just have to show up in person to renew. you don't have to retake the test. if you took it in a gooseneck you probably just have a cdl w/o air brake certification.

you also get the benefit of the awesome law they passed that if you get a ticket you can not take a defensive driving or deferred adjudication. even if you are driving a pass car. automatically goes on your record.
the other awesomeness is if you get a traffic ticket in another state, texas gets a letter from the other state and can issue a warrant. I found that out the hard way when I got a ticket coming back from Moab in Po Dunk, New Mexico. Speed Limit was 45 mph in the middle of no where. trooper El Gonzales said I was speeding in the city limits. I asked where was the city. he not think very funny.
best part was I handed him my insurance card w/ vehicle info and he put down I was driving a 1998 Toyota Land Cruiser. I was driving a 1988 Range Rover. Total BS.
I called NM DMV and said if your trooper isn't even competent enough to copy simple vehicle info from an insuance card how do I know he is competent enough to work a radar gun.
I had to pay. assholes!

Yeah, we are camping there. I am waiting a call back to see if they have hook ups or not to see if we need to bring the generator. I still have an open seat for sure.
