We are having a trip out to Brazos Valley Offroad Ranch (HWY 47) on Saturday the 12th. We will be meeting in the McDonald' parking lot at 11:30 am on Northgate, and will get to the gate at 12:00 noon. All newbies and experienced members are invited.

The fee is $10 per person to enter, a brief safety meeting will be held beforehand.

Hope to see everyone there.:gigem:

Word on the street is that there will be a lot of others there, is that true?

yes, three other groups are scheduled to be there. But it's a big place, I wouldn't worry about it.

I might be able to go for a little but, like Adam, I also have work.

So suggestion, a week or more heads up would make it allot easier for those of us that work to get off.

Thanks

Well at the current rate, I wouldn't be surprised if it gets rained out anyway.

Well, this is a bummer...perhaps we can have some sort of get together that the new members can come to?

well if you couldn't figure it out, this is canceled.

Will try again for next weekend but that doesn't look too hopeful either.

Shhhh, be very careful who you chant that too right about now. With the drought going on, you may find yourself strung up on a fence as a sacrifice to the rain gods. ;)

yes, next sat. sept. 26

Would it be better to schedule on a day that is not a "game day" I mean don't most freshmen go to the football game?

What about next Sunday? I am going to be out of town unfortunately, but I definitely think turnout would be better if it was not on a home game day.

I don't mean to be negative, but check out the weather for this week:

http://www.weather.com/outlook/homeandgarden/home/tenday/77840?from=36hr_topnav_home

Over a 40% chance of rain Tuesday to Friday. How long does it take for this place to dry out?

take a trip to soggy bottom or Alto!

85cj7
09-21-2009, 09:31 AM
Ed, this is the newbie run. So it has it to be in town and appear easy enough for them to come out, if I had a big pimped out z71 I wouldn't take it to soggy bottom. 47 is perfect for new time members but the weather just isn't cooperating.

wtf, soggy bottom is easy to get around.

what about spring creek, its 75 miles away and open rain or shine. Mud and some other "wheeling".

KrazyKarl02

Just to make a point, the "newbie" run used to go to Alto or Llano. While I agree Soggy Bottom does pretty much suck, I think you will lose the interest of new people if an off-road event does not occur soon.

I also think there are a lot of freshman with pimped out Z-71's that only idea of "off-roading" is something very similar to Soggy Bottom, atleast thats what we all did in Highschool.

What about a trip to Spring Creek, it is only about 1.5 hours away and has a "rock crawling" course (I use the term rock crawling, very lightly)

Yep, I would think that they would understand if 47 is rained out. Being a home game weekend with the game not until 6 might be a problem, but a good Sunday day run to where ever would be better than nothing. Just throwing ideas out there is all.

Eckert

i dont understand why 47 closes everytime it rains. is he afraid the trails might get shifted around and have some kind of challenge to them?

Yeah, my freshman year the first run was at Alto. Taking a roadtrip on the first outing was cool.

I agree that if a trip doesn't happen soon new members will lose interest.

Any place will likely suffice. Remember the good ol' days. A ditch. The river. Even a field. Doesn't even have to be your field. Right Andy? :D

Alto would be great. It's huge. Enough for everyone. Good people watching. Missing that certain je ne sai qua of Ft. Hood, but still a great starter place.
