Congress to Vote on H.R. 1925 America's Red Rock Wilderness Act This Thursday!

Moab Might Be Gone Forever!

The Chairman of the Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests and Public Lands of the U.S. House Committee on Natural Resources has scheduled a hearing on October 1 to consider H.R. 1925, America's Red Rock Wilderness Act of 2009.

This legislation -- which will ban off-highway vehicle (OHV) access to public lands to those who live and recreate in
Utah -- was introduced by New York Representative Maurice Hinchey.

However, not a single Representative from Utah is supporting H.R.1925.

Specifically, H.R. 1925 would designate more than nine million more acres as federally protected "Wilderness," and directly affect the Moab, San Rafael Swell and Chimney Rock areas (to name a few) in Utah.

These popular OHV areas represent some of the most important remaining OHV recreation areas in Utah, and are some of the most popular with responsible OHV riders. The proposed Wilderness designation would also make the land off limits to ATV riders, mountain bikers and horseback
riders.

Coming on the heels of the recently enacted Omnibus Public Land Management Act, which closed 2 million acres of public lands, this vast Wilderness bill will take away additional recreation opportunities currently enjoyed by local residents and visitors alike.

The AMA needs your help now to stop H.R. 1925. The fastest way to reach your U.S. Representative is to call them. You can find contact information for your elected officials by entering your zip code on AmericanMotorcyclist.com, clicking on "Rights," then "Issues and Legislation." Additionally, a prewritten e-mail is available for you to send to your Representative immediately by following the "Take
Action" option and entering your information.

Please contact your Representative right away and urge them to oppose H.R. 1925.

It's VERY VERY SIMPLE! Just click here...

... and you will be taken to the AMA's (American Motorcycle
Association) website. Enter your zip code and a letter will be sent to your representative urging them to vote NO on this bill.

BTW - the mirror of this bill in the senate is S.B. 799. Take a minute to write your senators too.

no. you can't put a wilderness area around a road (ie anything that's currently legal for our rigs to be on in public land in UT). This would basically just take dirtbikes and ATVs off of trails (ie hiking trails, horseback trails, mtb trails). If they'd put a rider on there that kicks the horses off I'd send them a check :D

so this does not threaten the area that 4wheel drive vehicles would be driving on? it is just taking dirtbikes and atvs off of actual hiking trails?

well they're probably technically multi-use trails right now, but definitely not roads (even 4wd roads).

gotcha

either way i dont think they should convert it, especially if no one in Utah even has a problem with it.

It may not directly affect us right now, but it only makes it easier to pass further legislation later which could.

Got this in an e-mail

Dear Ed:
Thank you for contacting me with your support for H.R. 1925, the America's Red Rock Wilderness Act of 2009. I appreciate the opportunity to address this matter.

As you may know, H.R. 1925 would designate specific areas in Utah as components of the National Wildlife Preservation System (NWPS). President Lyndon Johnson created the NWPS in 1964 in order to "secure for the American people of present and future generations the benefits of an enduring resource of wilderness." This act helps preserve the listed wilderness areas by banning temporary roads, motor vehicles, motorized equipment or motorboats, landing of aircraft, other forms of mechanical transport, and no structures or installations within any protected areas. Currently, this bill has been referred to the House Committee on Natural Resources . Should I be called upon to vote on this matter, I will keep your support in mind.

Again, thank you for contacting me on this matter. If I may be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

John Carter
Member of Congress

I was thinking more along the lines of reminding him that he is from Texas and we love our 2nd Amendment rights and being able to settle our differences with it. :D

good, that just means I will have to stay here longer and won't spend so much on vacations. Then when I do decide to come home ( I have a card to get through Dubai, and Iraq is still in the stone ages w/ checking passports) they will just detain me in ATL. I will explain that my account must have been hacked and some haji over here made the threats, then proceed on my merry way. I will then wait for one of his fundraisers and drive the beast over his limo when he arrives and tell him he voted wrong and I am not going to vote for him anymore...

A bit of support coming from outdoors companies...

http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=825795 (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=825795)
Backstory - The man who spoke to congress representing OIA and in support of HR 1925 dropped a bunch of big names such as Cabela's and said they were in support as well. PBB and other forums have put pressure on these companies and now Cabela's and Coleman are both stating publicly they in fact do not support this bill. :D
