Either a new Powerwagon or F-150 raptor, there is no other option for a fool-size that wont need fixing.

I suggest new jeep.

jerryg79
09-30-2009, 01:55 PM
$8000 was high for a bronco 10 yrs ago.

you'll also notice he lists all the important stuff like stereo, lift kit, INTAKE!!!, headers....but no mileage, condition of vehicle, factory options, or anything that a person over the age of 18 looks at when buying a vehicle.

That and the fact that it says "owner headed for college" means it was probably owned by some kid who had it mudding every weekend.

I would look for a blazer if you wanted a full size.

Knowing Courtney I'm sure she doesn't want to do extreme obstacles or trails like the rest of us, she probably just wants to drive with the main group of people around from different obstacle to obstacle. And a full size provides plenty of room for people to pile in instead of walking. We can always use another drunk bus, do it.

Karl Logic - Careful this is the logic that made Hot Pocket sell his pile of Cherokee....

If I were you, I would go to BVORR this weekend and try to ride in as many different people's vehicles as possible. See what you like. I know you are thinking full size, but if you hopped behind the wheel of say a late 80's blazer or bronco/F-150, I think you would find you have trouble seeing over the hood. I'm not saying that to be sexist, but seriously, for me seeing over the hood of the Klogger is a giant pain in the arse.

I would also bet that half of these people might let you drive their rig down the trail, just to see what it feels like. If you want to know what a giant piece of crap with bad brakes, a 6" lift, 37" tires, and crew cab hot glued to it feel likes, well then find me at Shiloh Ridge or Clayton.....

Driving different people's rigs, I think you will find that about 33" tires are as big as you will want to go to start with. Something like a Cherokee is a great start.

you have to periodically adjust them to keep it running
elevation and temperature require more adjustment
when you get at an angle where you are ready to poo yourself they flood and die
they always run richer than they should, engine longevity is an issue (100k on an engine was a huge deal to my parents, 200k is the new 100k thanks to excess fuel not diluting the oil)
fuel mileage sucks on a wheeling rig, carb'd fuel mileage really sucks
you smell like you just got done mowing the lawn every time you drive
you usually get better ignition with efi
TBI aside, crappy stock efi intake manifolds are better flowing than the most kickass of carb intakes
efi fuel pumps have to be replaced some times, carb fuel pumps have to be replaced much more frequently
plug in a laptop to see whats wrong
you can put a whole bag of chips on efi

its just a better option, especially for something that gets parked 340 days out of the year. You don't want to mess with it the few times you get to use it.

rochesters are really good at keeping a tune
who are we talking about here?
see above
most carb'd trucks have been rebuilt already. we are talking about a wheeling rig too
whoop-i-do
carbs pour fuel on you?
MSD
performance? honestly?
i have never replaced a manual fuel pump on any truck i owned or dealt with with a carb, FI-about everyone. EFI pumps also cost alot more than carb.
isnt too terribly hard to diagnose a carb truck. FI brings the suck

all that said i am trying to build yet another EFI rig. but from what ive talked to courtney about. she merely wants something big. hell, she likes danny's piece. it wont be much of a dedicated wheeler to bash around like the rest of us want.

*i believe* she wants something from big gay truck land, not something economical and smart.

I have also wheeled and owned fullsizes. For mudding, playing in the sand and going camping they great. When it comes to running trails they stArt to lose some of their appeal. Going up steep inclines you will be very nervous about what is on the otherside because the hoods are so hard to see around or over. Also most trails are not built for the width of a fullsize truck, so eventually get dents in the body no matter what trails you are running.

My personal suggestion would be a jeep Cherokee. Also if this needs to be a daily driver I would stay away from vehicles that are already lifted and have lots of mods. This usually means that they have been beat on by the previous owner. Whatever you decide glad to see you are getting a rig.

I think a fullsize is a great place to start w/ a rig. If you can learn to drive one down a non-fullsize friendly trail, if you ever drop down to a buggy or heep/yota sized vehicle it is that much more gravy.

how much can I sell a working c6 and 435 for?

C6 - $50

435 - $150

You could hold out and get more, but you are going to have to find some d-bag who really needs a C6....

Come to Shiloh Ridge this weekend, I will demonstrate why TTB is the best axle ever made. The secret is you can not do any maintenance to them. If you try to help the TTB it will bite you. My TTB thinks of me as a step father, because it hates me and I beat it.

It was close to Christmas, it was like a step dad buying the kid a bike so he will go out and play while he bangs the kids mom.....

Crap, I get called out and my first post brings it back on topic. What a ***** I must look like. :(

DIK :flipoff2:

http://houston.craigslist.org/cto/1423234657.html -~150 in resealing the window and doors and looks like a decent deal.
http://houston.craigslist.org/cto/1424841871.html too high-higher than girraffe...well, NM. :gigem:
http://houston.craigslist.org/cto/1425458451.html-looks real clean, but I would really be careful w/ it that cheap. The radiator is a very easy fix if that is really what is wrong with it.
http://houston.craigslist.org/cto/1422766719.html-on the high side, but pretty clean. If there are papers on an engine rebuild, it may be worth it.

http://houston.craigslist.org/ctd/1425360911.html-good looking truck, but that's alot of dough for a trail truck. Would make a nice tow rig if you didn't mind the crappy mileage and the guys with diesels blowing your doors off. :D
http://houston.craigslist.org/ctd/1423759981.html-wouldn't be a bad deal if it wasn't for the single cab (and NO BEER WINDOW!!! )
http://houston.craigslist.org/cto/1421901687.html probably a 250-a good truck that would make a good kloggeresqe vehicle down the road. Probable the best fuel mileage vehicle of the bunch.

I don't know fords very well (other than our old 91 like the last one, and mom's V10) so take my thoughts with a grain of salt. The 91 was a good truck, it took a beating at my stepdad's, mine, and then my brother's hands before we traded it off. It would pull a house down, just wouldn't do it very fast. It was the loudest some-a-***** on the roads once we dualed it out w/ the glass packs. :D

The V10 is an '05 I think. It won't get out of it's own way compared to my '04 diesel that I had. It does sound good with the duals on it though, but gets sub 13 fuel mileage most of the time (it does spend alot of time running around the ranch idling though).
