I need a new carb for my brinco. I have a holley 600 classic with a blown power valve and I don't know how to rebuild it. Any aftermarket 4 barrel will do I think. It is a square bore.

I've got an Edelbrock 1406 (I think?), 4bbl that I don't think I'm going to end up using. Dunno of its condition but you can have it for what I paid Hot Pocket for it, $50.

Yes

power valve is like 5 bucks at Eaker performance, easy fix.

Yeah, might as well fix it honestly.

They make a part that prevents the power valve from blowing. i think its a check ball or somthing.

nothing hard about it, take it apart, clean it, reinstall it the new parts. Nice thing about hollys is there is no adjustment, the jets do the metering. be sure not to let it backfire when starting it for the first time, that kills power valves. you might also get a bowl site window and a bowl vent extension.

Well I got it taken apart for the most part.................now to put it back together...........

Shouldn't be hard. This thread reminded me of work today. I was trying to get this 69 Camaro running that has been sitting since sometime when Clinton was in Office. It has a dual tunnel ram with twin holley double pumpers on top supplied by a holley blue (110gph) fuel pump. After flushing the fuel system and hooking the pump up to a makeshift "gas tank" since the factory one was shot, I flipped the switch for the pump and was reminded of why I hate carburetors. All 4 floats were stuck in the bowls, and as the massive fuel pump built pressure, it shot fuel out of the bowl vents on both carbs. We're talking 3 to 4 ft high streams of fuel coming out of all 4 bowl vents. I was laughing my ass off. Never seen anything like it. I then fired it up with the pump off and let it run off of what was in the bowls and it sounded suprisingly healthy.

it looks like my carb has been recently rebuilt. Everything looks really clean and new. I changed the power valve but i don't know if the old one was bad. I'll try to put it back together tomorrow, if i have any trouble I will call reckless. thanks for the offer buddy

put back together and running, i still have a problem of it staying on after i turn it off but i have noticed alot more high end power for some reason.:D

Is it dieseling afterwards? That sounds like a valve issue.

I f'ing hope not that would suck balls!!! How would i check for that? the motor only has 5k on it

A compression check should show that. This motor with 5k on it, what were the specs on the rebuild? This can also happen if you went way freakin' high on compression.

Won't this also happen if the timing is way off.

it will also happen when your engine is 30 years old and you burn 87 gas.

Engines need 3 things to run right? Air, Gas, and some form of spark or heat. The air and gas you can not turn off (in this engine), you turn off the ignition. So if it keeps running, it is finding some way to spark/ignite. This can come from several things:

1) High compression engines with low octane rated gas. The gas actual gets hot enough through the compression to ignite. As I recall you have an "M-Block", so unless you hopped the hell out of it, I do not think it would be compression, as I think an M-block is like 8.5 :1. You need to be closer to 10:1 for this to be an issue.

2) Engine overheating, If the thing is hotter than hell, it can also ignite

3) Bad valves, the exhaust valve does not seal off, allowing some of the other pistons combusted gas to ignite the fuel/air charge in the other piston

4) Crap built up on the head that acts like charcoal and pisses everything off.

5) Ford Gremlins - Little unexplained bastards, the really bad kind are the ones who breed with Chrysler Gremlins.

I'll just pull the head and post pics. Its all coming apart tomorrow anyway. Today i drove to fort hood to use their shop and pulled the motor. It will be pulled apart and painted tomorrow.

is the alternator, distributor, coil, and all associated wiring stock?

Too bad its already apart. Would be interesting to see if it still dieseled with the alternator unplugged.

or if the timing was slightly off, or if it had a vaccuum leak, or if the high idle circuit/choke was out of adjustment, or if the idle was set too high. All of those could cause it to diesel. Damn I hate carbs.

Hey, on Extreme 4X4 they are building a crab motor scrambler, but they are putting a propane mixer on top of it. What do you think of that Fred? The awesomeness of a carb with super awesomeness of propane!

how does any of that cause an engine to diesel after the ignition is turned off?

Fredo

Yes John, if you want to get specific, I guess I should have said "backfire, cough, stutter, something that shouldn't happen after the key is turned off", not diesel.

it also could be a back feed from the alternator
