View Full Version : 22RE truck

I'm looking for a 1986-94? 22re 4 cyl, 5 speed truck 2 or 4wd ext. cab or regular, or 86-89 22re 4 cyl, 5 speed 4runner. I am trying to find one of two things. I would like to find one that needs an engine (I have a rebuilt 22re to put in it) and some other minor work for cheap, $1k-ish or less. The other option is to find one that has been garaged and wiped down with a diaper in the $3k range. (OK, maybe just decent paint/interior and mechanically in good shape.) Let me know what you guys see. I was thinking about something that could tow the boat, but I think I will just get something like this for the mileage right now. I'm going to try to get the Belle in condition to tow the boat across town, think that would be a clusterfawk of epic proportions!

Did you see the one for $1950 I posted in the good deals thread? It looked pretty nice.

maybe I'll check and see if it's still around. The pictures alone make me think it's crap, sideways pictures at night and no interior shots. I guess it is fairly cheap.

I don't know what it is about the sideways pictures. I've seen many people using them. Maybe they think it adds a bit of artistry to the ad.

I wanted to check out the build, but can't find it. I even joined, as BMFScout of course, so I could search, but no go. I don't think I want that truck anyway, but would at least like to check his build out.

Are you looking for an off-road rig or a driver? I bet that a 25 yr old toyota build will be more reliable than a freshly modified truck. What do you think?

I don't know the guy, I have just seen him post but here his slight build up on Expedition Portal. I also know the guy took it on a long trip across mexico or something so it has to be semi reliable...

I'm looking for something to drive everyday. If we are leaving the DFW area though, we'd be in the Honda anyway. I'm trying to get something that isn't boring, but also cheap. Finding another scout had crossed my mind, just figured I'd get better mileage in a toyota. I'm not in a hurry, going to sell Melanie's Dodge and can drive Old Yeller for awhile if I need to. Will probably end up in a boring 2wd toyota pickup, but thought I could entertain ideas. The goal is something cheap, thinking I should be getting a better job soon, but still need to save some money.

I've wondered this about toyota for a while, aren't those trucks identical in every way except front body mounts and suspension? What seperates north american and rest of the world early 90s toyota trucks other than a badge that says hilux and a solid axle?

I was just looking at a blue crewcab hilux in the chow hall parking lot and thinking to myself this would sell like hotcakes at home! I wouldn't mind having a small 4door truck like that to run around the ranch and make trips to town in. Maybe the colorado 4doors will drop cheap enough to grab one of them in a few years.

EDIT: was a 4x4 diesel also. Will have to check on the front axle though.

Hi ,
Thanks for being interested in buying my truck. It is in a good condition, no scratches,no damages, never been implicated in any accidents, no problems at the engine, runs very well. It has an 4 Cyl Engine, 4x4, Mileage 119000 miles, clear title. The price is not negotiable ,US $2900 firm. The only thing because i am selling it,because i divorced with my husband and after the divorce i own this truck, now as a woman i don`t need it(i don`t have driver license)...we will use only eBay Vehicle Purchase Protection to complete the sale. Let me know if you are interested and you have the funds available
Thanks.

What is "tipical bent an old truck will." ?? I found one very similar I like, but it has some hail damage and is in Azle. Azle is a long way to go to find out if the truck is hammered to death or not. I think I might try to get some more pics before driving that far.

Talked to this guy, he made it sound like the awesomest truck ever that just needed an engine. I got some pics, hard to tell exactly but it's black and grey interior. The interior needs some help, and it' hard to tell how hammered the body is from the pics, but the paint is shiny. If it weren't all the way out in Azle, I'd just run over and have a look myself.

I'm also open to suggestions. I'm selling the fiance's Stratus, hoping to get ~4K. So this is my upper limit for budget, I'd like to spend less. I would like something I can haul the dog around in the back and not care if he gets it muddy. I would also like this to get at least 20 mpg. It would be cool if I could tow the boat with it a few miles across town, but not completely necessary. 4x4 would be neat, but also not necessary. It must have AC or the ability to "AC-ify" it, and let's say make it to Houston and back if I had to. If you have any other ideas, I'm all ears.
