what is involved in an automatic to standard swap in a CJ-7. guy is wanting to trade the transmission and engine out of Ed's old cj that i sold a few years ago for my rebuilt tf999. how hard is it to swap out pedal assemblys and such? do i need to convert to hyd clutch?

I would think pedals would be easy. There is already a hole in the firewall for the clutch master cylinder for hydro clutch. I don't think you HAVE to run the hydro clutch but it is a million times better than the clutch linkages. The column would have to be modified or replaced with a manual one. The skid plate/crossmember has all the holes needed. Cut a hole in the floor and get a boot. What else is there?

found a hyd conversion kit for a decent price http://extremecustomparts.com/c-69060-hydraulic-clutch-linkage-conversion-kits-cj.html

my biggest deal was the pedal assemby just bolting in

it bolts in, you can get hydro using stock 4 cyl parts for the master and slave. get the tunnel cover from the guy, pedels, clutch linkage, bell crank, rod and maybe even swap columns

yea thats all part of the swap so far, but for me, spending the money to get the hyd conversion with everything there is worth the money

if no body lift then hose from q-teck or 4wd hardware then rest of parts from oreilly so you have the warranty if you would ever need them. what trans are you gonna run

...

Yep, that's a t4, but it looks kinda bent forward more than it should.

I had to drill a hole in the clutch pedal for the conversion, and get a clevis pin from tsc. I bet all 6 cylinder pedal assemblies are that way.

why would you put a t4 in place of an auto?

I agree, a t4 = poop. Get a t-176

Reckless

i know the t-4 is crap but i know its in good shape and its just a run around rig. the whole vehicle is stock. The reason behind it all is that im trading him my low mile rebuilt auto trans for the engine and t-4

Why don't you just find another motor and not have to swap trans? Aren't non efi jeep 6cyl easy and cheap to come buy?

I don't think 4.0s are as cheap as they were a year ago. All the swap candidates now have orange paint on the blocks.

Reckless

there is gonna be no money swapped so this is a cheap way to get my CJ back on the road. yea the t-4 sucks like cox, but when it goes out, its easy to swap in a SM465 b/c the bellhousing just needs 2 holes.
