Not sure which route to take just yet. Any thoughts on this?

Planning on leaving out the afternoon/evening of the 4th of June, and try to make it to Las Vegas by Saturday evening. Any suggestions on which hotel/casino to stay at?

Friday 4th: Depart dexter hizzy (afternoonish)
Sat. 5th: Arrive in Vegas
Sun. 6th: Stay in Vegas
Mon. 7th: Head to Hollister (check-in 2-5p.m.)
Tues-Thursday 8-11th: TTC
Fri. 12th: Competitors Luncheon and head for Moab/Johnson Valley
Sat. 13th: Wheel Moab/JV
Sun. 14th: Head for home
Mon. 15th: Continue home

Driving Out
College Station:
Ed
Doug
Tommy
Sharpe
Brady (return trip)

From Colorado:
Creighton
Kristin

Flying
Brian???
Brady (one way from ??? to ???)

We will be cut loose on Friday around lunchtime, and some of the other competitors are thinking of doing some wheeling (possibly Moab, Johnson Valley or others depending on carnage from the week and such). We can cut out and head to Vegas again, pack the fork up and head home or try and get some wheelin in with the guys. Not sure about any of this at all, but I know I don't have any where to be on the following Monday so I am open to whatever.

Return Trip Options
1. Leave Friday at lunch and head to Johnson Valley/The Hammers (this seems to be the popular option on pbb right now)
Wheel Saturday
Head to El Paso Sunday morning (head across the border for some cultural exchange...)
Head to dexter hizzy Monday morning

2. Leave Friday at Lunch and head to Moab (~14 hours of driving to get there)
Wheel Saturday
Head to Amarillo Sunday morning
Head to dexter hizzy Monday morning

(w/ this option, if we push hard and swap drivers out we could make it home by early morning Monday I believe.)

Did you want to bring Pigpen out w/ us? I haven't heard from DavidO yet (but just sent him an e-mail). I think I can make it pretty cheap on the fuel end of it if you want. :D

DRAGOONRANCH

If we have to push it to get back, we can be back in by Sunday afternoon/evening I believe.

Kristin and I will be staying at Wild Bill's Saloon and Casino, it is right across from the Bellagio and you get access to the pool at the Flamingo. And they have parking for trailers but I think that all of the Casinos and hotels will.

Moab would be sweet to wheel on the way home.

Yep, if we have time, we could get a good full day of wheelin in at Moab or JV which would be killer for sure. Now just have to get DavidO to commit, find someone else who wants to bring a rig, or find a car hauler/bumper pull to rent from someone (cough, cough, colman.. cough).

I will call you personally to work something like this out. I was thinking of who in the club had a car hauler that was in good enough shape to make the 6000k trip w/ the beast loaded up and you were the only one I could think of.

Grandad is supposed to take the dooley up to Mt. Pleasant to get a CM bet put on at Big Tex soon, so I was going to call up Jace there and see if he would rent/sponsor one for the trip if I don't get a taker for the other spot on the GN.

Anyone know if dual tbi's has been done before? If not that is awesome!! Hope everything goes as planned today.

robertf03
06-04-2010, 01:27 PM
I've seen it done in pictures, but I don't know what computer was being used. The tbi computers that we all use for this stuff will not work in stock configuration. They are peak and hold injectors and the peak time is based on current which doubles with the additional injectors. its a lm1949 and there is a .1ohm resistor that controls the peak time, its value had to be cut in half to .05ohm (not something midstate or radio shack can get) so we cannibalized a junk camaro tbi computer for the resistors and soldered them on the board in parallel. Without modification the driver goes into hold mode before it hits the peak voltage and the injector either won't open or won't completely open.

If someone has an extra 1227747 ecm sitting around we could use it. I'm not certain on the longevity of this hack, there might be a reason I haven't seen anyone do this.

stx4wheeler
06-04-2010, 01:38 PM

saw this on pirate, sounds promising.

uh oh....only 90% done this late. barring some heroic thrashing, the alternate might get in!

Also saw this on pirate regarding the dual tbi, sounds like this asshat that thinks we did crossfire on a bigblock has beat us to the gold that is dual tbi

Sounds cool. Can't wait to see it!

Been done tho. I've done 2. And it was OE on 88-91 (IIRC) Corvett's.

and what makes me a skeptic to the above asshatery, this was regarding the setup from the arfcom, pirate, what have you equivalent to TBI forums

I was just talking to someone the other day. For about 10 years people have talked about doing a dual TBI but this could be the first one I have seen actually run

Crossfire is more like taking a stock tbi, cutting it in half, then scattering the carcasses towards opposite corners of the engine. Still only 2 barrels, 2 injectors with individual drivers.

RCcola55

I'll bite, i know nothing on either, but since its apparently an issue, anyone care to educate me?

The issue is, although we have seen a few pictures of a 2x4 intake set up for a dual tbi on a small block, and even found out that howell and turbo city sold a kit for it, we have been unable to find anyone that has completed a running setup. Even though there have been a few to claim they have, there is no proof. What is so special about this setup is it is the first known dual tbi setup on a big block and the icing on the cake is that it runs a stock computer. Flem knows a lot more about this then I do, so I'll let him chime in on the rest.

As for the crossfire setup, as flem explained to me it is two single barrel tb's with one injector for each, and everything i have read on them is that they suck! They are by no means comparible to what we have done for Ed's truck. Rowdy is dumb.

Now with all that being said, the setup we are running is virtually untested and we are still trying to figure out what it needs to run at maximum potential. Once Flem is able to get a bit more tune time on the truck I think it will be a whole nother animal from what it has already become. He is even working on figuring up something for cook's red truck. Viva la ****ty Fuel Injection

edit: I know this might not seem like a big deal to a lot of people, but with the complexity that has gone into it, its a pretty cool accomplishment and im pround to say i helped out. With all the crap we have had to go through with this truck and the hurdles that had to be jumped, we did the best we could!

yes, there was about a 2 hour window from the time the truck had a useable O2 sensor bungholio and the time it left, and I was passed out face down on a cooler for 1 of those hours,

Talked to sharpe a few times today; ed didnt get last in the hill climb, something like 7th or 8th but the climate change iis causeing problems with the motor, after a timing advance sharpe said it started to run better. He didnt get to do the frame twister due to the fact of so many dnf's, and he got half way through the mud pit, and finished mid pack in the event beating out "fat girl". Thats all i got for now im sure i will get an update tomorrow, sounds like the beast is holding together and keeping close pace to the much better built rigs

we tried 350 injectors because after calculating the BSFC for a 380hp motor it needed 64lb injectors, but they were too much. So we left what was in the throttle bodies to begin with alone, but wen it gets back we will try 4.3's or 305's

RCcola55

i heard from sharpe last night, they didnt get to run any events yesterday due to everyone else breakin and taking forever. The big ranger busted a tranny as well.

John, the engine setup is a mark V block, partiot heads with big valves, and a edelbrock performer rpm 2x4 intake. The problem with this setup is it was all based around ed eventually switching to a mark IV block, stroking it to 496 of 511, and raising the CR to around 11:1. As it sits right now the heads are way to big for the cam and low CR, which is causeing some of the tuning issues. I think once the motor is built like ed wants then we can really start making power. I read up on a similar build where a guy useed dual 650's and made almost 700hp with a slighty larger cam but with the LSA of 112* which is still tbi friendly

no time for pics during the build, ill get some when they get back.

Ed said, "That ranger is sick. They cracked a transfer case, then ran the mud pit w/ the hole siliconed up an blew out the C6 pump seals. They were pullin the tranny last night to try and fix it."

So I don't know if he meant sick good or sick bad.:flipoff2:

Been an interestin week. The power wagon guys are cool as ****. The fat girl guys(and other crews that were drinking) were stupid for drinking after they made a big deal of it (and crystal clear about the no alchol in the park) at the welcome meeting. Some of the vendors were drinking, so there was a bit of a double standard. I am pretty sure it will be hid by trhe sponsors in the future.

When we ran tank trap, the headers boiled the fluid in the clutch slave leaving us with no clutch for the last half of our run. It started working unce we winched out though, but the clutch has a big slip in it now. The starter is also acting up after ha ing to be started in gear after the clutch went south. The motor sounded good until it started to get pushed in the canyon where it souned like it was backfiring. Everyone thinks it is running lean, but I am sure flem/clarke can get it running right with some time with it.

****, we bounced off the rev limiter in every event we were able to run! (you should know better than that :flipoff2: )

The starter is acting up at times and the clutch seems to be slipping also. The starter got worked hard when the headers boiled the fluid out of the slave cylinder on the clutch, and I think there may just be mud in the clutch with the dust cover missing.
