View Full Version : Alto Run 10/2 *This Saturday*

MR.ZAP

Gonna do a day trip to Alto, Tx for the new members. It's the very first weekend in October and Ags are playing at OSU. It's only a two hour drive, so no worries there. New guys: if you need a ride/tow/whatever just post up and ask! Meet at the McDonalds on Northgate at 8 am Saturday. We will probably be leaving around 9.

So far for rigs we have...

It's mainly for new guys and they probably won't be going on the halloween run. We needed to do it sometime soon so that was the best time.

They are all more than welcome to come on the halloween run, but this is more for doing trails and light mudding and everyone getting to know each other

Halloween run is more of a crowded mud bog, drunk fest, that will be impossible to run any trails on, it will just be awesomeness

Exactly. This run is for the new guys to do some real wheelin. Too hectic on the Halloween run for them to do anything.

Any interest in this?

Since it's a non-Event weekend I'll be taking the dodge and attempt some mild wheeling. This place offers a good variety of terrain suitable for anything, including mini-vans:gigem:.

My plan is to drive up there Saturday, stay the night and drive back early Sunday.

That would leave 1-2 spots for riders out there.

yes it is. I had a thought about making a new safety video one weekend. We would need someone who is good at editing and just spend a weekend demonstrating how to safely recover vehicles.

Clayton would be good for the video clips if someone brought a video camera and then they could be edited into a new safety video

Those axles were pretty stout, I'm pretty sure they were 5200's.

KrazyKarl02
10-03-2010, 02:05 PM
They are 6 lug axles, so it is kind of hard to say just by looking at the picture. Either way I tow the Klogger on twin 3.5k (7k) setup. Should be comprable weight. You are right at the edge of the load limit, but I agree, I don't think that was the issue.

I have a hell of a time finding decent trailer tires. The Carlisle that discount sells sucks my left nut. The ones that trailer wheel and frame in Houston sell pop when you just look at them. I am having good luck with Goodyears from Walmart. Currently I have 205 wide with a 15" rim. Next time I think I am going to step up to 215 or 225, this should increase the tire's load rating and I do not think I will rub.

I'll post up in the noob thread later when I can get to a computer. It's got a CDL (all 80's have this) but unfortunately no F/R electric lockers. I'll prolly throw an aussie in the rear at some point.

Overall I feel like it was a great newb trip.

They were all pretty hesitant but after a little peer pressure and hazing, they started to push their vehicles a little harder.

Wish there would have been a few other older members with rigs to help out, but they did great for a first trip out. We just nee to emphasize the need for proper recovery points, and tow straps next time.

I don't think so, but we really don't yet have a policy for that. However we are working on it along with plenty of other stuff (such as turning names into Stu-Act for each trip:confused:). Let's not turn this thread into a policy discussion.

Here is an idea. Have a wrenchfest on a Saturday or weekend for the newer guys where the older members can help them get recovery points mounted.

Just got some hooks and a 3" by 30' 27.000lbs strap from TSC. Someone wanna help me with my Aussie and front hooks this weekend??

Hooks are bad. You want fully captured shackle mounts.

crdub09
10-04-2010, 05:40 PM
Damn, well that's what I've got for now. I don't have a way to mount any other points without drilling. The hooks have a latch on the backside though- not load bearing of course.

Factory style tow hooks are really your best and only option on stock bumpers.
They will work fine for now.

I would check out ebay for a rear TJ hook.

These are what I use in the front:

To weld to sheet metal bumpers? Or weld to the cross-members? Might as well build a bumper if you are going to do that.
