Anyone interested in camping?

Depends on how much school work I have, if I don't have any I might consider staying for a few hours...

You should just drive over from Baylor and camp with us.

So I'm milking my transmission as much as I can. Considering skipping this or just going and following the newbs around to try and make her last for a while. Assuming the transmission dosent feel noticeably worse, I think I'll go.

11-04-2010, 04:18 PM
why limp it? If you blow it up (at gilmer) it will lead to more investment, and a better transmission...... Isn't that what this whole club is about? blow it up, take pictures, build it stronger, then try to blow it up again......:flipoff2:

Gilmer is actually somewhat more organized than Alto. In theory it is run by the state. There is an old crotchity man at the entrance that no one likes (yes I know this is a public thread, I don't care if people read it). Other than that the campsites are decent, bathrooms are clean. As for wheeling it is hill climbs like the ones at Alto, but better. There are no mud pits. Trails are named, labeled, and have ratings in front of them.

I have an open trail seat if anyone wants to tag along.

Leaving Friday, from Conroe around 1030. Let me know if you want me to swing by the woodlands and pick you up in the Jetta. Plan is to drop the jetta off at Corey's and hop in his truck and go.

Wow I am glad that you are driving a 2WD, for all of these runs into town. That is 2-3 hours of wheeling time a day that ya'll will be wasting. Considering the average TAMORITE on a TAMOR trip only gets about a half hour of wheeling in due to every 5 minutes someone breaking on the trail you are really cutting your wheeling time short by going into town.

Not to mention if ya'll were driving your wheeling rigs to and from the trail you would have to air up and down each time you went to town.... that would suck. Ya'll have a good time!

bcolman
11-11-2010, 06:47 PM
the air up air down thing is only if they actually do that which alot of them do not since they do not have a way to air back up

My first trip to Alto, and as it turns out it was truck rodeo.

Friday- got there, and it was pouring down rain. Rain was followed by a cold front of 40 degree weather. Made for a crappy night, but did some light night wheeling which was fun.

Saturday - went wheeling all around the place, managed to get the truck stuck in a nice mud hole, had water coming in through the doors. Corey pulled me out, truck wouldn't start. We also saw the mud drags and sand drags which were awesome. There were some pretty stout truck out there with plenty of horsepower. Gave me a stiffie.

Afterwards, I decide to take the 1 hour drive to oreilly, got a new starter and the truck was good to go. We wheeled for about 3 hours all around the place. I'm really happy with the truck and how it held up. It can climb muddy hills like a champ with that granny gear :gigem:

All in all, alto was a lot of fun... great success!!
