Hey guys, my jeep has been exhibiting somewhat of a gangster lean as of late... Is this a shock issue and if so should i replace all of them or just the ones on the leaning side?

robertf03

probably not shocks.

what brand springs do you have? Is everything seated correctly in the spring buckets?

Shocks limit vibration and sway, they do not affect ride height.

air shocks do but thats a completely different type of shock.
check your springs and make shure they are in the right location, make shure one didn't break (it happens) and if all else fails take out the tape measure and give everything a measure and compare. i have no clue if your shocks are worn but a bad shock will not cause your issue

or maybe just get the fat chick out of your passenger seat.....

I really couldn't see any striking difference. If anything it's that right rear spring. They are off of a 4 door Rubicon w/ tow package so OEM.

I'd try swapping sides. They may not be the same spring rate on the passenger and driver side.

I think they do but they've been on for a very long time so shouldn't I have noticed by now???

maybe the weaker side is just getting worn, coil springs do sag, it is probably all of that amazing torque that the 3.6Ls of fury produces

It's possible but they shouldn't be doing that, they aren't old springs, they were brand new when I got them... and it's a 3.8L, ass**** :flipoff2:

do you have lift pucks or longer shocks you can over compress and/or overextend stock coils pretty easily and it takes the life of of them quickly.

My lift springs on the TJ lost almost 2 inches in 2 years of good wheeling

I have 2 inch pucks and the HD springs.

have you got out a tape measure yet and measured the height of the springs as it sits and compared them......

After further inspection it looks like my right rear spring has unseated itself from inside the puck and is now kinda sitting on the edge... Also I measured and all of them were uniform.

Go do some jumps, it will probably seat itself... Atleast that is what I would do.

Just disconnect the rear shocks & swaybay and have someone sit on the wheel hub while you finagle the spring back into position. Thats what I did... Oh and watch the droop on the driveshaft, dont want to bind that up.

Where is the RTI ramp? I think i'll just flex the **** out of the rear and then beat on the spring until it reseats :haha:

Spring retainer as something that holds the spring in place and to keep the spring from unseating/rotating...

MR.ZAP
11-04-2010, 12:04 AM
I dunno how on earth that would work though???

11-04-2010, 12:32 AM
Pretty sure Adam is referring to something like this. . . http://www.ballisticfabrication.com/Coil-spring-retainer_p_1460.html

not just a rolled edge of a spring bucket to keep the spring seated.

breckboarder55
11-04-2010, 06:43 AM
More of something that literally clips the spring into place:
http://www.currieenterprises.com/cestore/product.aspx?id=2852

I see no reason why this could not work? http://zoneoffroad.com/product-acc?ki=97&gr=

MR.ZAP

But wouldn't that require me to drill into my pucks??? That would be retarded

... You drill into the spring perch/mount on the axle side...

MR.ZAP
11-04-2010, 03:09 PM
Well unless those things are like four or five inches long they won't even make it over the pucks, which would render them absolutely useless haha

I'm guessing you didn't install your spacers...?

Here is my crude paint diagram, the only reason this would not work is if you some how had your spacer on the axle side instead of the frame side. But than you could just put the clip on the frame side...

on the rear they go on the bottom... and a clip on the top would make the chance of not landing back in the correct spot more likely

this is gay... just jack it up on that side and pop it back in place. no need to spend any money on it

breckboarder55

I found some clips for $10, since I drop my front coils I see a need for them. The backs will probably drop once I get arms for her.

If it does it allot, or the coil unseats during flex, I think it is worth the ten bucks.

This is confusing me. If the spring is unseating on the lift-puck side how would a retainer on the opposite side prevent it from happening again?

breckboarder55
11-04-2010, 04:27 PM
Unless I am miss-understanding the situation, it would keep the spring from rotating when it unseats, and "sitting on the edge".

KrazyKarl02
11-04-2010, 04:46 PM
Go do some jumps, it will probably seat itself...

Again, the solution has already been posted.

could just worry about it at clayton.... maybe it will seat or maybe it will fall out, either way we will talk and enjoy frosty beverages around your jeep. Or cut it all out and go leaf springs...... then when it breaks you know exactly what went wrong.

Haha not gonna mess with it until after clayton. I think it's mainly because the springs don't have the tensile strength to hold up the jeep correctly with all the added weight. But if that's the truth then that means an excuse to get new springs so it's all gravyy :gigem:

What added weight are you talking about?

Bumpers, winch, etc. And my springs are of the stock nature, but off of a 4 door Rubi and are supposed to be heavy duty. They just aren't heavy duty enough to hold it up properly. The right side is what's sagging because all of the heavy stuff (gas tank and whatnot) is on that side. So that means new springs or JKS ACOS.

Zach is the new Robby, he himself is the added wieght ;):rainbow:

You mean weight? I saw your criticism of Corey's rhetorical prowess (or lack thereof) earlier and I concurred. Now, however, I believe you guys should both go have a Hooked on Phonics party together.... :rainbow::rainbow::rainbow::rainbow:
