Dam that thing looks high. Did you add some lift?

Edit: I noticed the jack stands holding it up.

nice, I am planning on building up a 9in to swap in the rear of mine

But it just moved for the first time in 3 months....:D

fbronco86

No more lift. I am going to cut the rear fenders. The rear is sitting on the ground, but the front is on jack stands.

i beg to differ sir...:p

i still dont get it. i see that the front is on jackstands but if all the weight of the rear is sitting on the tires...why is there still so much clearance? was it that much before?

fbronco86
12-15-2002, 10:32 PM
Yeah i had 5.5 inches of lift on it before with 33's and i did not lift it up any more. so the rear is sitting how it is gonna sit. plus some fender trimming. I am trying to keep the center of gravity down low. I might take out the 2.5 inch blocks and do the shackle flip to get more flex in the rear. The front end is hanging down cause of the jack stands.

rear end needs brakes and i need to get the rear drive shaft cut down 2 inchs or so.

front end is going to be some fun. I might try to move the front axle forward. But then that might cause some steering problems. but i will have to see what happens when i get the old stuff off and the new springs mounted in the front

How are you mounting your front D60? When I installed mine I moved the front axle 3" forward so that the tires did not hit the cab, But I only had 2.5" of lift so that might not be a problem with yours. I made my own steering linkage and it worked fine with the axle moved forward but my bronco is also older.

That's nothing. Just tape it to your ring finger and go on about your business. That way it will set crooked and be fawked up for the rest of your life, like mine!

Well its been awhile since i added to this post but here we go. First of all I got the bronco running again so i can load it up on the trailer to take to lufkin. While i am still at school i am gonna make some high steer arms.

The list of things to do

high steer arms
find some cheap ass dana 60 drums
make new steering componets
new oil pump (that should be the fun part)
maybe if i have time i will do the hydro assit
roll cage is planned also

Graystroke

is the oil pump on a ford in the pan on the bottom of the block or in the front cover. I'm guessing the front cover since the dizzy is up front. That should be easy on that motor. Easy day job.

Never bought from any of these places but it might give you and idea. I think most people are using QA1's:

Never mind i think you're looking for threaded ends

Not a bad price, but you won't have lifetime warranty, but i'm not sure o'reillys gives you lifetime anymore.

I thought you were getting rid of that axle and getting a 14 bolt? Didn't you spin a race in the bearing hub?

the race is kosher and i am gonna get jimmy to get me a deal to fix the seal surface so it will be good again. plus if i get a 14 bolt all i have to change is the brackets. and u have lifetime parts so that is good for me :gigem:

I started to work on the little bronco today. I have been sand blasting the floor since the linear that was sprayed on the floor is peeling off. I think I might go back with my herculinear again it worked pretty well in my big bronco and was only 75 bucks to coat the floor. I also put a battery in it and fired it up. That thing runs like a champ. I made a few carb adjustments and she runs pretty good. I transmission even goes into gear.

Jerry I did not air up the tire yet.

I would like to add my own personal feelings about Broncos:

The 2 proudest moments of owning a Ford Bronco:

Number 2: when you buy the vehicle, and think this is going to be cool, V8, 4WD, I can lift it, get window tinting, tires, blah blah blah

Number 1: When you sell the giant steaming piece of pooh, laughing cause the new owner will see how you messed up the lift, window tinting, tires on someones mail box, broke a drive shaft in a Casino parking lot and some dudes lawn, etc......

So the new plan is as follows

get the floor ready for my herculinear

get the engine and tranny running in good shape(have the motor running)
service the brakes.
and primer the truck with expoxy primer and finish the body work.

I think brake fluid eats just about anything it comes in contact with. I am about 50% done and I am using a grinder with a wire wheel. I think I will just use it. I have some paint stripper that works ok but that stuff just makes a nasty mess.

The only part I have left is the pass side floor board area. So I am almost done with the floor. There are a few spots that need some welding but no big deal. I have some tires and rims coming from karl just so I can put some tires on to test drive this dude around a little. I fixed/ beat on the top last night and got it close to normal.

The next major steps

putting the windshield on.
doors
gas tank for FI (fuel cell or I might try to find a bigger tank not sure whats available for these EBs) I want 20 or so gallons
putting on the FI
Installing the dash
lights
brakes

gas tank for FI (fuel cell or I might try to find a bigger tank not sure whats available for these EBs) I want 20 or so gallons
putting on the FI

www.wildhorses4x4.com and www.bcbroncos.com has 24 gallon tanks, I'm running one right now and its awesome.

They've got 2 versions, both made of 3/16 steel i think but one has provisions to use an in tank pump.

Yeah I saw those 389 bucks. I got a tank for my big bronco for 99 bucks. I really think I could fab my own tank for 389 bucks.

So do you just run that one tank? Or do you still have two tanks?

Well I took all the FI off my big bronco. Took me about a day to get that job done. I started working on the EB. Turns out I dont have the right Harmonic Balancer. So I am gonna have to order the right one. The bronco has a 50 oz and I need a 28 oz. Summit has one for 80 bucks. So until I get the right balancer for the belt setup I am kinda hanging out. My gas tank is on back order so that pissed me off as well. I also need to delete the air pump from my harness and make it match up with the EB wiring system.

a few years ago, home depot's wire manufacturer was changing the outer rubber coating on the 10-3 wire. they were going from yellow to black. because of this, they were selling the remaining wire on the roll for $0.01/foot. i think we got somewhere in the neighboorhood of 60feet. that made one hell of an extension cord. the damn ends cost more then the cord.

Well I had to put my time working on my DD truck. Which I will refer to it as the Exxon Valdez on wheels. The factory has some special method of putting on vavle covers with no sealer and some how they do not leak. However in my case that is not true at all. So I am going to try this vavle cover deal again.

Just for grins I would like to hear other peoples method for valve covers.

I myself like the cork gaskets. I generally glue the gaskets to the cover with 3M glue and then put a thin coat of vasoline on the cork and install them. The vasoline makes them come off easy and sometimes you can reuse them. Most of the time the cork gets really hard and bonds to the block and you are screwed.

I ran into a small mishap on my part.

My computer is setup to run 1,3,7.... firing order
and my cam is setup to run 1,5,4..... firing order

So I am going to have to change the pin outs on my engine harness and do a 02 sensor mod to get this to act right.

Or some people just run it with the injectors firing at the wrong time and it seems to work alright.

Or I can pull the cam outta my other engine that is the 1,3,7 firing order

And then

I found this on the internet

Flemco is buring me a chip. This should solve the firing order issue and let the computer control the electric fan which will be pretty cool. The smog pump has been disabled as well. I have the wiring harness fit to the bronco. I just need to tape the harness up and zip tie it in place.

skyjacker is the way to go. My truck rode so good from BDR's driveway to the guy's trailer. It flexed pretty good across the neighbor's lawn and off the curb too

Have you looked at duff's or broncograveyard yet? They have some cool stuff out.

James Duff has some cool stuff but they are kinda $$$$$$. The kit that broncograveyard sells has superlift springs.

I am not sure if skyjacker makes a kit for broncos or not.

bronco graveyard has those super flexy coils that they make that Frick has.

I had skyjacker on mine, its basically the same lift for your bronco, im sure they make one.

Maybe Tuff Country :flipoff2:

I think I am gonna try the james duff system B 3.5 lift kit. I am going to have to add new rear springs packs cause one rear spring is a little messed up.

And Frick they are progressive rate coils :flipoff2:

Superlift kits for EB's suck the big one. I'd go with BC, Wildhorses, or Cage. All of them use progressive rate springs and are way better than what the broncograveyard sells.

Alright

3.5'' lift you need a drop pitman arm? Some have them some dont.

on fullsizes they recomend them for, 4 inch lifts and higher, It kinda depends if you are getting a trac bar drop bracket? or adjustable trac bar. if you go with the trac bar drop bracket get the drop pitman arm.

But i myself would go with the adjustable bar from square one, put on the lift, and drive it and see how it feels, if it dont feel quite right slap a drop arm on it.

Mine had a drop track bar bracket, no drop pitman arm, and bumpsteer like a son of a *****!!!!!

You'll need a drop track bar bracket and drop pitman arm if you want to go with a 3.5", or do a TRO and you wont need the pitman arm

After I figured out what year bronco I needed to order parts for I got a wildhorses system 3 3.5" lift for it. I also go the drop pitman arm for it.

all the lifts should be the same for the 66-77 broncos, only change could be drop trac bar bracket. Did yours come with PS and PB?

Yeah I was not sure what trac bar drop bracket I needed.

I have a 76 frame with 76 axles and a 73 body. So yes I have stock PS and PB with the Y steering.

you need the drop bar for the 76-77 then, and do yourself a favor and ditch the Y-steering

Yeah the Y steering blows. I had it on my big bronco and it blows.

Maybe cause you spent a crap load on a big gey bronco. I personally would have rather spent that much money on strippers and firetrucks but you should have a fun toy to play with when you are done.

Hmm maybe you are on to something there :gigem:

On a side note. My lift should be coming into the big lufkin tomorrow so I have started to take my bronco apart. I am also looking at buying a house so this seems like a super time for doing this lift kit.

Edit from last weekend with the strippers and firetrucks my camera is MIA. I will have to get a camera from work.

Rear susp is complete. It always sucks when you lend you tools out to people and they keep them for months on end KARL. I really could have used that bad dude hot wrench. I had a little trouble getting the old bushing outta the shackle. The rubber bushings have that super metal rim around them that pretty much you have to sell your soul to the devil to get out. Thanks to KARL I had to make a deal with the devil.

Next Job is the front susp. I gave everything a good coating of PB blaster so things should be alright. That and I am a rebel and run my impact at 120 psi when bolts do not come out.

I stole the camera from work but left the cable at work. Pics tomorrow. Its really not that exciting anyway but I did air up the tires.

I have installed some Ford SVO racing doors. They have a stage 3 rust kit installed on them. I am really using these cause I am way to lazy to change all the parts over to the other doors. I also installed the drivers seat.

The engine, some little midget guy got to my pick up coil again. I had cleaned it up and got it working but I think I am gonna have to warrenty that dude out and try another new one.

I also need to get some brake lines made and get the rear drive shaft extended.

And all my tires hold air.

hmm, obviously your suspension is alot better than mine then. The wild horse hd front shaft is well worth the $ if you're looking for something new, heavy walled tube and long splines
