Im trying to figure out how to get the most bang for the buck and make this Jeep go farther. Im thinking front locker, rear limited slip and possibly fuel injection off a chevy blazer for the 350. Any advice or suggestions??

Right now it has a chevy 350 (carberated) and sm465 tranny. The rest is pretty stock other than a four inch superlift, one inch body lift, and the 33's. it does have the stock 44 in the rear. Im not trying to go too crazy cause it is my daily and has to make it half way comfortably four hours home. Just looking for some ideas. ill get pics up soon

I think a rear locker will be your cheapest and most noticable option

like I said, it doesnt have too much now. just the v8, tranny and lift. Other than that its pretty stock

Not knowing exactly what you want I also suggest a good rear locker.

Is the carberator giving you trouble? If not I would suggest axles/suspension work, winch, lights/recovery gear then when you find yourself in angle where the carb won't hang go fuel injection.

Im thinking possibly a front lunchbox and a limited slip in the rear. I may be getting a fuel injection system off a blazer but i havent seen it yet. Im running an edlebrock carb now and it sucks bad. Ive got a qjet for it and it does half way decent. As far as suspension I was thinking maybe a Rubicon Express 4.5

Sounds like you have a hell of a plan! but don't under-estimate the benefit of a rear locker and drivability won't be bad, I dd'ed one for 4 years and will put one in the dodge as soon as I can afford it.

Sorry to be a buzz-kill, but please do not do 'urban off-roading'; (ie. trespassing); like that. Especially with a TAMOR sticker prominently displayed on your windshield. It is not only risky for you and taints the entire off-roading community but seriously jeopardizes TAMORs reputability with local law enforcement and other off-roaders. Remember that when you put anything on your vehicle that represents the club you are now effectively an ambassador for our interests and should act as such.

Nice looking CJ by the way.

I wasn't trespassing. I had permission to be there

In this order: cb radio, gm tbi injection, lunchbox lockers front and rear, then do other stuff as you see fit.

Bang for the buck I'd swap the quadrajet back on it. Those actually work very well offroad. The TBI would be better but maybe put it further down the list in order.

All a limited slip will do is let you down when you need it. Do a real locker in the rear. Leave the front open or be prepared to fix it. It should be pretty reliable open but once you lock it you'll start having some trouble with thing like hubs, hub bolts, u-joints, and axle shafts. Performance would be great and it shouldn't break on every trip but just carry some spares.

The reason I'm considering a limited is because 90% of my driving is sand. I know in rocks the limited will suck but I don't know that I'm in them enough. You really think the front lunchbox will cause problems that often?

Put down the Four Wheeler magazine and listen up. Lockers are always better than Limited Slips, regardless of the terrain. Except for ice. If you're on ice you're ****ed regardless of what diff you're running. For the record, Creighton has welded a ****ed up lunchbox locker into a giant ball of traction "half"* drunk in a hotel parking lot.

Front lunchbox isn't going to cause enough problems to avoid it. Just carry some spare parts.

for real, find a detroit for the rear, auzzie or something for the front and find a set of spare shafts and hubs for spares.... tbi is great and if you take your time you can get it together cheap. q jet is second best thing to efi.

Tyler

Do yall have any ideas what tbi has the really high priced o2 sensors? I know a couple year model Chevrolet systems had rediculous priced sensors but I'm not sure which ones

colman

You can mix and match it just depends on how far from the motor if you need a 3 or one wire. If your to far away you need a heated 3 wire sensor

Tyler
09-27-2011, 10:28 AM
I think they would be able to be pretty close. I'm not real sure though. I haven't ever messed with fuel injection

Sharpe

Fact: O2 sensors are $20 per wire.

Tyler, I'm saying this as a friend here. The best bang for your buck would be to with no fenders, 80" tractor tires for ultimate traction, rockwells, and swap in a 1.8L turbo diesel powerhouse from a VW bug. Honestly, this should definitely be your next step dude. :gigem:

I was thinking airplane wings to fly over all the obstacles. I was going to put the motor in backwards with a prop out of the grill and throw some duct tape wings on it. Im ditching the tires for tracks and thinking about putting a .30 caliber machine gun on the hood. stadium lights for lighting

No don't go with stadium lights, they cost to much. Go with the energy saver squirrelly looking bulbs. Way cheaper and WAYYY brighter dude.

Mount that big square on the roof of the Dodge. They would get people to shut their brites off. Just JB Weld em to the roof or something
