UPDATES will be posted on Pirate4x4:
http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/jeep-hardcore-tech/1028156-nissan-patrol-phase-iii-build-4-seat-twisted-customs-wannabe.html

So, last December (2010), I threw a rod bearing in the Toyota 22RE I was using and decided to upgrade to a V8.
The more that I thought about it, I decided to just start from scratch and build a 4-seat buggy that the whole family could ride in.

The new buggy plans are:
6.0 HO Engine out of an Escalade
- Kevko pan
- Hooker Headers
4L60E upgraded with more / better clutches, corvette servos etc... (Circle D did this for me)
stock torque convertor (gone thru by Circle D Specialties)
Atlas II, 3.8, 32 spline, 1350 yokes, 0 degrees
AA short Adapter with VSS
Front Axle - Spider9 with ~50 degree steering and True Hi-9
Rear Axle - Spider9 with True Hi-9
Chassis will be a 54" Twisted Customs 4-seat knock-off, slightly modified for my likes
Hood and grill will be Nissan Patrol
Mastercraft seats and harnesses
Willwood brakes
Ron Davis 24 x 19 radiator
40" Krawlers (stickies) on Raceline beadlock wheels (thats the plan at least for now)

That's the plan for now at least. I want to have the chassis done before the December 2011 Clayton Trip so i can give Busa his TC chassis back on the way up.

The Patrol (Phase II before I took it apart)

Built a Table to work off of:
18966
This is where I got after one day and one night on the chassis.
18964
The t-case dropped down a few degrees
18965
I changed the T-case back up to 0 degrees for a better two piece driveshaft angle at the bearing

Putting the tranny and t-case together

The adapter bolts were too long - they bottomed out:
18972[
Notice the AL on the end of the bolts - I cut them all down
18969
The first two bends done on the first piece of tube, slightly overbent on second bend. I was able to fix it

I like the yellow lines but I think I'm going to add a window "vent" bar coming down from the top "A" pillar bend. I need something to intersect down there in the door.

Update - I got the subframe done - at least all of the bends and notches, just need to add all of the 1.25" small bracing.

why not more of a pie cut narrow job on the hood, so the cowl wouldn't stick out so far from the edges?

why not more of a pie cut narrow job on the hood, so the cowl wouldn't stick out so far from the edges?

because i'm trying to make it look like a Patrol - not a Jeep or FJ. The Patrol hoods are narrower than the body (take a look at my first post on Pirate). I will have a rolled fender all the way out to the cowl when done.

Also - the pie-cuts are hard. if you take more out of the front than the back (what I needed to do), and try to put it back together, the front of the hood where it wraps around the grill is at the wrong angle. I would then have to do several more pie cuts to get that straight - and even then it would be pretty complicated.

never noticed the hood being that much narrower, with a fender it kinda hides it

1 - why is the engine offset? tcase clearnace?

2 - why did you grind the axle brackets off, not torch them?

3 - those brakes are sexy

4 - elite off road no more?!

1) same reasons I off-set Lynda's. It lines up better with the Ford 9 offset, gives room for exhaust on the passenger side, and puts the front driveshaft more to the side and away from the upper links.
2) they were torched off, but then I had to grind off the 1/4" weld, 1/4" plate, and other side 1/4" weld. Basically 3/4" wide weld area sticking 1/4" up (as close as I could torch it)
3) yes they are
4) I guess not

not going to make it...

I just need more time and money - story of my life. Still have to buy wheels, front shafts and joints, powdercoat, computer reprogram / harness, and hood mold and fiberglass work just to name a few of the major purchases still needed. I did buy tires already though...

I need to schedule some time off work to work on this at home.

Update - Busa is killing me on schedule. He is WAY ahead... Anyways, working on the floors / tranny cover / t-case cover and other AL work. Also working on mounting the battery, PS can, remote oil filter, computer, etc... so I can remove the hood and have someone make it out of fiberglass.
I've got tires - no wheels yet. Got the firewall done last night.

The Patrol is almost done - trying to finish up the wiring. It starts and sounds good. Might take a day off this week to finish up the wires and start putting it all back together. Might not get some cosmetic details (emblems) done before the trip but im on track to drive it out of the garage this weekend and test it out.

Pretty epic build.

After seeing them several times over the course of several years, I forget how much work you guys put in to those. Lots of details.
