Figured I would start a thread before I tear this thing apart and get everyone's opinion on whats best options.

Specs:
1987 YJ
4.2L with Motorcraft 2100 carb
3.07 gears
new Autometer Gauges
Peugeot BA 10-5 Transmission with no reverse

Future upgrades:
new trans
lower gears
spray in bedliner
front bumper

I want to keep this jeep simple, but i want to fix it right without going broke.

Right now i need to look at transmission options. A while back the transmission started clicking/poping while backing up. Gears 1-5 work fine. Now it has completely lost reverse and just grinds. Occasionally it will pop out of reverse when you let the clutch out, usually stays in gear, and grinds.

I am about to pull the transmission and split it open, but should i fix this trans or spend the money for an ax15? Are there any other options?

Transmission mount wore out and caused the skid plate to wear a hole in the t-case.

Does anyone have a bellhousing to an ax15 for sale? Or know where I can find one.

I have a rebuilt trans and a new rear cover on the t-case. The bellhousing is the only part I still need to put this back together.

They should have come in 91-99 Cherokee and yj with a 4.0 or 4.2.

clutch changed sometime around 1995 from internal slave to external

Ya it changed, but I've seen some that use the same housing. They have a cover over the external cylinder mounting surface with a smaller hole for internal lines. Just remove the cover and it works for external slave cylinders.

I am switching over to an external slave cylinder. So, 95-99 will definitely work. Some 91-95s will work. I think some newer ones will work too. Does a NV3550 have the same bolt pattern as the ax15?

I am about 90% sure that JP did a write up on a Jeep very similar to this one not too long ago.
