My red jeep needs a new motor. Blew it up in Clayton last year. So here is a poll for opinions in a new motor

Stock 258 with 4.0 head
A jeep i6 stroked to 4.7
Amc 401 v8 with alluminum intake (weighs about 50 lbs more than a 6cyl)

5.3, 6.0 or LS
If I had a jeep, those would be my options.

But off if your list, I would pick the stock motor with 4.0 head

5.3 or stock 4.0, all of your other options look gay.

they are, but he'll either blow it up or not finish it because it cost too much or was confiscated for fencing stolen goods

junkyard Cherokee engine. No one will care when you blow that up.

If you're rebuilding an I6, might as well make it a stroker.

If you're just swapping in a used engine, my vote is 4.2 with 4.0 head and factory fuel injection swap.

It currently has a 4.2 with 4.0 head and it went boom
I have a 4.2 in the shop in unknown condition from a parted cj
There is a guy with a Hesco stroker 4.7 short block on cl for 800
I have a line on a 401 with a guy I swap parts with sometimes
