How can you tell from those pictures? Looks like a M38a1 to me. It has the correct body features.

I thought a m38a1 had the different windshield frame and flat fenders. Where is flem, he would know for sure.

I spent 10 minutes looking on google and from what I saw, I couldn't tell the difference between a 53 M38A1 and a 54 CJ5.

how can you tell the difference in windshields? Did all of the earlier windshields have the seam down the middle? I saw the earlier jeeps had the wipers on top rather than bottom, but i couldn't tell which this jeep had in the pics.

they moved the wiper motor to the inside and changed the angle for 76. that makes it require a 76 top and doors too so you can run a supertop and not a tigertop

That's an M38 you're thinking of. An M38A1 is pretty close to a CJ-5 in most details but fairly small ones.

M38A1 production began in '52-53. CJ-5s were civilianized M38A1s and didn't come along until '54. Most of them from this era tend to be bastardized from all sorts of different eras partswise though.

i always need another one. i had parts laying around that could go on this so the only logical thing to do was to buy the whole jeep. plus my fiance and I just split up so buying cars is my version of retail therapy
specs:
currently running motor
chevy small block v8
t350
d300
chevy half tons stock
needs steering, remove body lift, brakes and driveshafts

it was running and driving before axle swap that never got finished

What are the axles, d-44 and 10-bolt?

The body looks like it is in good shape. Post some pics when you pick it up.
