I guess I should start a build thread on this one. It is just a plain boring jeep right now. I am collecting parts to make it cool, but in the mean time lightly building it so I can have some fun. I added the cheap winch I had on the trailer and a light bar I had laying around. I picked up an AAM 11.5 rear axle for later. I got the aftermarket hood latches because JKs have stupid hood flutter. The board is only letting me do 5 pictures today so I'll add more later. I have an aussie locker ordered for the dana 30 and am looking for some 35s.

I like the color.

What are the build plans?

Shaggy

within the next month or so 35's, front locker, atlas. Plenty of spare dana 30 shafts
It will ultimately end up on 05+ Superduty front 60 converted to 8x6.5 bolt pattern, AAM 11.5 Rear axle. Pitbull Rocker 42s on Double beadlocks. 5.13s and full lockers. Suspension will be long arm/linked depending on if I move the gas tank. Just enough stretch to center up the tires in the fenders. The goal is no lift at all but I might end up with a tiny lift. Air bumps because of no up travel due to no lift.
Full roll cage hopefully before Colorado trip this summer.

I'm thinking of just cutting the stock fender flares that come on it. If i f up, they wont be too expensive to replace but any special way to go about hacking em up to make it look good

Shaggy

There is a clean way to cut them. I'll get pics later

Well I got the Atlas bought. It is used (two runs less than 2000 miles) out of my friends 2013 JKU with auto. I have to order a different input shaft and shifters from Advanced Adapters (about $450). He did an LS swap and is going to a 3.0:1 ratio because the transmission he has is 4:1 first gear. This case going in mine is 5.0:1. Should be perfect ratio for my 6 speed.

I got the front locker installed. I should have everything I need for the atlas in about a 10 days or so. I am going to have to build some driveshafts to go along with it. I am looking for a set of 35s right now and when I get them I'll cut the fenders.

That front axle is going to explode faster than my colon after a spicy chicken basket from popeyes. If your homebuilt driveshafts dont commit suicide first.

Church's closed down in paris, but we did just get a golden chicken. May have to give it a try.

You had it right with Popeyes. Popeyes is superior to all. 4 pc chicken tenders and mashed potatoes = the sex. But its really like gay sex, because I feel all greasy and hate myself later.

In Huntsville, Alabama they have a Popeye's with an "All you can Eat" buffet at lunch. I **** you not.

The Aussie locker was really pissing me off on the hard switchbacks on the trails in CO. It wouldn't disengage when I wanted and kept jerking driver. Not a good thing when on shelf roads with whole family loaded on board. I never had that kind of trouble with one in the TJ. I would have rather been open on this trip.

I went to a place today for lunch in Wilmington, NC called Smithfield's Chicken and BBQ. It's a walk up counter fast food type place. I didn't have any Chicken but I did try the BBQ and baked beans. Pretty good stuff if you like pulled Pork samwiches with cole slaw on them. Bake Beans had lots of pork swimming in it. Very meaty. I would reccommend to a friend. Good Value. * * * * out of 5 stars.

Frenchys is the place all the Canadians love. The one in the fifth ward with bulletproof glass at the counter . Additionally there is a huge one prominently placed on 290 at the exit for prairieview, that joke writes itself.

Wow, haven't thought about Smithfield's in a long time. Yeah they are awesome. And anytime you are in eastern nc you have to eat pulled pork with cole slaw. I think it's actually a law

I can fix most arguments with a couple tender rolls from Bush's for the wifey.

I really like Chicken Express, but Bush's usually puts them to shame. Lots of folks go just for their sweet tea also.

I had Chicken Express for lunch. I went on about a 10 year hiatus from there. I got food poisoning from the one in CS off of 6 and no one believed me. Then, like a week later, I was in Dallas for the weekend and got a call from Grayson saying I was right about the food poisoning because he had eaten there and was now sick.

Might be picking up a 96 4dr jeep xj from Waco. 33 super swampers and 4.5 lift. it has the go doorless mods but if i just take the front 2 off will the frame still twist when i flex? i really only ask cause you have a 4dr. will be taking it to hiddenfalls for some mild stuff to get a feel for what it can
CJ or Jeff wanna chime in?

KrazyKarl02

I think the uni-body will twist with all the doors on. I don't think taking the doors off is going to help much. The doors only contact at the 2 front hinges and at the point where it latches in the back.

I ordered the yokes to convert to 1310 flange driveshafts. Should be here mid week. Jeep will get atlas installed with new driveshafts and new Artec cross member that has link mounts built in for future 60 install. Work on this rig is going to be slow with oil being so damn cheap right now. The rear axle build is going decent. I have done some shaving on it. I plan to order locker, gears and shafts for it by then end of the year. I'm going 40 spline on it. Over kill but I won't have to worry about it. Right now I just want to get the atlas in before Clayton. I don't know if I'm going for sure or not but if I do I want to take this jeep.

KrazyKarl02

Shaggy

I got the tom woods drive-shafts for cheap. It will work fine for now with the little tires. When I swap axles I'll go 1350.

Last summer I pulled the carpet out of the jeep. Heat coming in through the floor was terrible so I put it back in. I have a mouse problem and the jeep smells terrible. I want to pull the carpet back out. It gets wet whenever it rains with the top and doors on because of the half doors. What is the best way to knock that heat out? Will bed-liner keep the heat from coming through? Or bed-liner plus floor mats. My other jeeps don't have carpet but they don't get so damn much heat out of the floor either.

tommy53002
02-19-2016, 04:59 PM
What about adding a heat shield between the exhaust and the floor board? or using the heat wrap on the exhaust?

Spray the inside with lizard skin heat shield.

beat the crap out of the JK this weekend at Canyons. I had fun running a little rig but the crazy long 116" wheelbase with 32" tires resulted in some to be expected carnage. All the skids underneath are beat to hell. Pass side rocker looks almost boatsideed already. Driver rocker has a smaller dent. Rear license plate mount broken as well as banged up rear bumper. The box tubing front bumper even got smashed up from winching out of a drop in with the weight of the jeep all on it. I also cut two tires. One is big enough to put fist in sidewall. The other is like two fingers but still too big to plug. I had fun but it is time to do some upgrades.

I think they are Mickey's, but I'm not sure need to look. I loaned the jeep to a buddy a few weeks ago while his is under the knife and yesterday we threw his old lift and tires on mine. He has a 2 door that we did Super Duty dana 60 front with RK 3-link long arm, 14 bolt rear RK 3 link long arm 6" stretch. Still need to set up gears, arbs and install driveshafts that should be in tonight. Oh and take to the exhaust shop too. He goes back to work in a little over a week hopefully his jeep will be complete before then.

I haven't driven it yet with the 35's. I get the jeep back Monday. And Tuesday I am finally installing the Atlas I have had sitting in the shop for a long time.
