next time... I almost stopped by Friday night... I was only about 90 miles from there... decided against it as it was 1 AM already.

It may be a month or so to get my junk done now...this is going to be a VERY busy next three weeks.

Thanks to Hal for making all sorts of work for me to do this week. Bastid just couldn't take it easy this weekend. :flipoff2:

Speakin of your buddy Hal, those sorry mothers didn't have a single tool when it came down to it, not to mention he carried around two extra complete axles on the trailer but didnt have a u-joint, thats pretty sorry. Just leave it up to Austinites to head out onto a trail and not have a single freakin tool!:flipoff2:

Krawler68
01-27-2003, 11:31 AM
I think Hal would be the first to admit he isn't the best mechanic nor does he have a plethora of tools... I will however say he's a good guy, and usually pretty fun to hang out with if you don't start your relationship with him by pissing in his cheerios. I can attest it's pretty annoying to hear Aggies moaning about Austin fags 24-7. It's funny at first...but the joke surely gets old... I get to experience it out here in West Texas where everybody is a red "gayder" and hates Ags.

As for his extra set of axles... he just bought that set for 500 bucks... and didn't have time or help to unload them from his trailer. I'll swing by the parts stroe with him after check-in at CalRocs and we'll buy the most important spare stuff.

I will probably end up having to work on Hal's junk in Cali this weekend, but not immediately. I don't fly out until Friday, and between then and now I have to find him a shop that will fix everything he messed up this weekend and tie his seats to his rollcage so we pass tech for CalRocs.

Glad to hear some of y'all had a good time. It looked fun... I'm sorry i missed it.

Hal's a good guy, a couple of us stayed on sunday to wheel with them, but like nick said, with a rig like that your gonna need some tools, it just comes with the sport, the price of those 2 axles and that spare could almost buy every tool you could need for trail fixes. it just sucks for him that he only got to wheel for half a day.

I'll have pics up of Hal's breakage later today or tomorrow. Hal might have been able to fix the broken mount, but there was a lot more wrong than that, the welds on the mount only had about 1/16" of penetration, and the other mounts were probably like that too. He also bent two heims and may have damaged a coilover, not to mention the broken yoke.

Krawler68
01-27-2003, 01:08 PM
You're kidding me right? He didn't tell me he'd broken all THAT much stuff... This could be quite a disastrous time. We don't have that much time to get all this done.

So to get this straight... I'll need to be replacing a D60 yoke, Rewelding control arm brackets, rebuilding a coilover (what exactly was damaged? I am ordering parts right now... was it just the shaft?), driveshaft, and what else?

Doug

Krawler68
01-27-2003, 01:30 PM
cool...I've got everything lined out... I just ordered new shafts for the coilovers and new heim joints... It'll be cool... I can't believe all this. Dayum.

Send me some pics to look at...

Thanks,
Doug

Here's a list of everything i saw that was damaged:

control arm mount
upper control arm heim
panhard rod heim and bar (i think the bar was bent, not real sure though)
the coilovers were bending quite a bit when they were trying to get it off the trail but they seemed straight when we were done
control arm bushing
d60 yoke
driveshaft u-joint

And all the mounts need to be rewelded i think because if they were like the one that broke, they won't last too long. Have fun :D

Krawler68
01-27-2003, 02:14 PM
we cool... I have everything I need ordered and Hal is getting the control arms fixed in Austin as we type.

I'll try and keep y'all posted as to what happens with this thing... it seems like the proverbial "three hour tour"... I think Troy can sympathize with me on this one... :flipoff2:

he also pinched his hardline at the passenger's side front brake. make sure you take care of that. brakes are a necessity, especially on the trail.

Krawler68
01-27-2003, 03:09 PM
I'll probably be doing that too... TIA for the info.

Everyone seemed nice from LHOR although i spent the majority of the time with Hal, Nate, and Jimmy. A couple of the other LHOR people were a little annoying on the trail, but i think it was due to inexperience. True the group i ran with didn't have any tools which was frustrating. Hal's grand cherokee probably could have been rigged with a few ratchet straps etc... and nate's blown bead could have been taken care of with a 4-way:D Oh well i had a blast and finnally met some of LHORorites  Rex and I also scouted for trails for the TCC and found some pretty good ones!!! Thats all for now, class is calling my name. Later - Doug

Had no problem with them either. Some were really slow on the trail mostly because they wouldn't move more than one vehicle at a time. Most were really bad spotters. But they were all nice people. Spent most of the time with Hal, Jimmy, and what was the name of the guy with the "doorless"? Who was Nate? Maybe they're both the same.

How did the blown bead require a 4 way? I let them use mine but didn't ask why.

And this is what happens when you drink since 6 in the morning, finish a bottle of rum, go on a night run, get lost in the pitch black, fall down a few hills on your face and end up passed out by the fire. Jonathan definitely provided the entertainment for Saturday night, he also ended up in a drunken cartwheel competition with Doug and a syrup chugging contest by himself. :D

This was definitely the most fun i've had in a while. I think Doug and myself ended up walking all 800 acres of Mason and definitely came up with some killer trails. All the LHOR guys and girls where really cool and we had fun watching them.

Not the webmasters fault, something to do with their database. I'll figure out what is going on tommorow when people are working. Later - Doug

Can't promise much... apparently my repairs on everyoine else's rigs are fine, but I can't do **** on my own rig.

I went to take the EB for a spin last night, and discovered that it was necessary to use lock washers on the bolts for my fan... sent it spinning through my radiator and out the bottom of the bronco.

Oh well... ANOTHER new radiator and a set of electric fans later I'll be in business.

Doug

BTW.... who bent their Redneck Ram so badly?

As it is I think it's my least concern... in the past 2 months I have done the following work for others-

R&I'ed a 6" Procomp lift on a 92 chebby and fixed a bunch of cracked welds on the brackets and fabbed a new center steering link.

Replaced two water pumps and fan clutches on other people's rides... on which I did use lock washers... WTF? What was so different about mine? Shoulda been thinking...

gotten the pleasure of working on a Super Bug... doing the brakes, replacing the MC, and doing a little wiring... damn those things are POS's...

Of all these things nothing is having any problems... only my **** has issues... I am not amused.

I have always pondered the same thing, I just figured that it had something to do with Austin and West Texas. :flipoff2:

is that marek or is it the hcor guy with the wooden flatbed? I'm looking for a pic of marek for the tcc roster on the katemcy site. also I've only found one good pic online of the matt. it'll definitely work, but if anyone has anything a little more exciting than a profile shot with little flex please post it or send it to me.

anyone have a picture of scooter in his new rig? he was at mason in january. little black pickup, with next-to-no bed, didn't look like anything crazy but crawled like a sonofabitch... he's the only one I don't have pic for right now.
