we've got a trip to BMRA scheduled for Feb. 15-16. I just got off the phone with Clyde. he's expecting us and everything's good to go. remember if you plan on making the trip send your info. (name, student ID, and emergency contact) to Lynda ( safety@tamor.org ). this can be done at the meeting this week, but if you know you aren't gonna be at the meeting or end not making it be sure to get that info to her. if you haven't been to Gilmer it's a lot of fun. no granite like Mason, but quite a few trees and lots of good trails. you can check out their website here (http://www.texasmotorizedtrails.com/ohvareas/barnwell/). we'll discuss more details at the meeting. all for now.

mapquest says its about 210 miles. dont know how fast ya'lls speed is on the highway, but it takes me around 3 hours to do that. so we could leave here around 7am and have most of the day to wheel. just let me know when and where.

I just heard that BMRA is closed this weekend cause of the rain and Clyde as usual is concerned with erosion.

One o' dem Ellis County boys called BMRA and talked to Clyde's wife, she said that since they got the closure notice out so late they decided to keep it open and just close a few trails. Not sure which ones.

Just a few pics. Most of the trails were closed but the wetness made the rest some fun. Out of 7 that tried this spot, only one jeep and Dan made it. Had a hell of a time wenching this one up.

gilmer was cold, wet, and sloppy. i had a great time, but was only there for 5 hours MAX. i rode in as a spotter for my friend scott in his 75 EB. after watching a built TJ walk up the first part of "twister" he declined my offer to get out and spot. we got about half-way up before the 4-barrel stopped us cold. he set the e brake and tried to restart the motor, but with the e brake set and his foot on the brake pedal we still slid backward down 2 ledges and then we rolled. no injuries, but the driver fender was ruined, driver back window gone, and minor dings and scratches... it was cool.

was this the guy with the bronco that was in on the ranger fiasco, the "driver"?

yeah thats him. it wasn't totally his fault, BUT... a more experienced driver would probably have been able to take action to avoid the rollover. it was his first time on a real trail... kind of a chitty introduction into the world of off-road.
