i just pulled the head from my jeep. how is a good way to clean the grime from the gasket area and get the crumbs out of the cylinders. There is no way to totally prevent getting some in there should i spray it with something or wipe it out and hope for the best???

Sounds like a good time to put in a new cam shaft.

if he does the cam he might as well just put in new timing gears to. I dont know he might wanna draw the line somewhere....

Yea, might as well put in some new timing gears or at least a chain if you're gonna do the cam. Since the head is getting done, you can have it shaved extra to bring up the compression ratio. Stock is like 8.2:1.

yep the line has been drawn no new cam no new head just get the damn thing running again thats the goal.

are the lifters bad from not rotating (square wear pattern on lifter bottom)? you can look at the wear marks on the bottom and figure it out. if so putting new lifters in won't fix any thing. the cam might have lost it's angle that spins the lifters. also check the cam lobes for pitting. another sign of a cam going flat. if it were me I would go ahead and buy a new cam (upgrade while your at it), check the pushrods for length and wear, put on a new timiing set, and go with it

the bad lifters fell apart when i was taking them out the retaining clip that holds them together broke they are hydraulic. I wouldlove to replace the cam and such but i got no money just need to get it running again.

I had similar thoughts once...spark plugs...cap and rotor...injectors....$1200 and two months later... .040 over, all new pistons, rings, high volume oil pump, etc, etc....the line kept running over me
