I'm looking for something in this range that RUNS well enough to replace my cute, reliable little cavalier (yes, I am FINALLY getting rid of that thing) - other than being efficient enough to be a daily driver, manual tranmission is my only real major demand with it.....if ya know of anyone selling one, or see one while your out and about, lemme know.

There is a 78-79 bronco for sale on hwy 304 south of bastrop. All I know is that it is light blue and looks to be in decent shape.

She's looking for an F-250 or 350... preferably a High boy... thought I'd narrow that down a little...

Oh damn doesn't that suck, we cut a 74 F-250 high boy up in our driveway about 4 months ago. Stilll have the transmission, transfercase, front axle, hood, doors, rear glass, and dash. You'll have to talk to mike though!

Already owned a Honda motorcycle; had to sell it before coming to A&M, though  the next one will be either a Vulcan 750 or a Harley DynaWideGlide :flipoff2:

I've looked at quite a few on Ebay that I really like; the thing is I'd like to actually be able to look at the vehicle and test drive it before I commit myself to it and I dont quite have the means to drive to Michigan or Oregon or any other place way out in BFE, USA......if I get a chance to go to Kansas over spring break, I'll probably look up there and along the way........and yes, my max. amount to spent is around $5500 WHY??? cuz a) I dont have money growing out of my ass, and b) I wont get too much more for a trade in or sell price on my car.

I don't normally like shortbeds - but this is pretty nice - maybe a new wheel tire combo and it would be just right

I've seen most of the recent stuff on ebay...everything's up in the NorthWest....like I say, I'm sure the people selling the vehicles are honest, but still, I'm not paying for something I havent seen and driven first. If I can find something here in Texas or possibly even Louisiana (that's not too bad a road trip), then that's cool, but I dont have the means, let alone the time, to be driving all around the country (as much as I really do like that blue 74 F100....)

yeah...we went and looked @ the red one in SA this weekend. Its really pretty nice. New paint and body is solid, i couldnt find any bondo. It has a 360 w/ about 15K on a rebuild, either T18 or NP435, and either Dana20 or NP205 (i'm still not positive on how to tell the difference in all these b.c. i've been told a few different things). It has some minor electrical issues that need to be worked out and will be before sale. It has power brakes but no power steering which REALLY blows considering it has 35"s. the lady said it will also be added before she sells it, she's got all the stuff just needs the mechanics time for it. It has a 9" and a high pinion, drum brake Dana 44 front (i've been told that many dont believe that this exists, but i'll vouch for it). Lift in the rear is provided by a 2" block stacked on top of a 4" block. One very minor spot on the body is rusted and it needs a spray in bedliner. Another issue discussed in another thread is the fuel tank, not much there, but like Krabs said, it felt like a tank driving it. Asking price was $3950, but seeing as how the lady was class of `84, Aggie price is $2800. :D

does it have a divorced transfercase?

BigRedFord04
02-18-2003, 01:55 PM
no divorced t-case, just an 8-10" adapter between the transmission and t-case. it is a longbed though and has a two piece driveshaft.

BigRedFord04
02-18-2003, 04:39 PM
according to www.venturesparts.com it has a NP205 xfer case. thats a pretty cool website, y'all should check it out. they've got A LOT of axles and such.

02-18-2003, 05:13 PM
That high pinion drum brake axle also has 260x u-joints. High pinion started in 66. 297x in 73. Disks in 76. I'd get a link to a good site about those ford axles but POR is not working.

BigRedFord04

i did notice that i thought they were quite a bit smaller, needed to be replaced either way.

A guy I work with is selling a 1974 1/2 ton, swb, ford. He said it has a np205, 9 inch in rear, and a posible dana 60 up front (not sure), 4 speed trans needs a new MOTOR
wants $500

Dont have his number on me but I will post it if any one needs it

Cajun
03-06-2003, 01:37 PM
If it's a half ton, it's got a 44 up front. D60s were never paired with 9"s.

Gullybasher
03-06-2003, 02:14 PM
I know they did not pair them that way from the factory,
but as old as this thing is and with all the owners it's had, it may be posible. This guy is going off of what he was told

BigRedFord04
03-06-2003, 02:46 PM
its just VERY not likely b.c. as far as i know i've never seen an 8 lug 9", nor a 5 lug 60.

Cajun

Thanks Austin. It would take a lot of work to make the bolt patterns match. Highly unlikely.

Didn't the mid-70's Fords have closed knuckle 44s anyway?

BigRedFord04
03-06-2003, 03:39 PM
not all of 'em...they still had open knuckle, but drum brakes. the drum brake 44s use a smaller u-joint than a 297. thats what the `76 kate and I looked @ had.

Cajun
03-06-2003, 03:43 PM
Aha! I assumed all the drum fronts were closed knuckle.

Learn something new everyday.:D

we went and looked @ a `78 F150 reg. cab long bed in Bryan today. the body was kinda rough, no dents or anything, just needs some paint. it had a 351M bored .020 w/ 10.5:1 flat top pistons, moly rings, etc, rebuilt ~10000 miles ago, NP435, NP205 xfer case, 9" and Dana 44 combo. VERY good working order. drives really smooth over the highway w/ nice tight steering. the guy wants $4000 for it and she's thinking about making an offer.really good truck, well maintained and rarely off-roaded (the guy said they used the four wheel drive maybe 3 times in the past two years, hubs still turned freely). any final thoughts, things to look out for, etc??? TIA.

BigRedFord04
03-12-2003, 03:18 AM
search is over...kate picked up that `78 today...going back to pay for it friday :D...we'll have pics up sometime soon. Four wheel drive works, WELL, and damn if that 1st gear isnt a hoss in 4-LO :D. First order of business is to go thru and change all the gearbox fluids, prolly replace the belts....damn V-belts :flipoff2:...next is to put in a CD player and some door speakers. Chrome trip needs some new clips, and a few panel peices need tightening. I'm sure she's got a list a mile long already...some things i've heard already include lift, 35"s, bedliner, paintjob.....more to come.

Thanks darlin...I love (it's a far cry from the gas-conserving, reliability of the cavalier, but there's just no comparison)....it's all paid for and officially mine as of yesterday :D Think I'm gonna have to take off that cb antenna so I dont fvck it up driving in and out of the damn parking garage - ah well, at least it fits in there, so no complaints
