yeah those are more my price range.... $4000-$7000, im gonna be driving it at least 80-100 miles each school day so i want something reliable thats why i wanted a cummins, but hard to find. so just any 92-94 ford diesel is good also? can you add a turbo to those or just drive it the way it is?

Actually 88-94 are good. Don't get a powerstroke (end of 94) or a turbo (some 93-94, not all). They are not reliable. You can add a $ turbo but I'm not sure what that does for reliebility. I'd just advance the timing, add a little more fuel, and drive it.

this one's got a banks turbo (http://www.autotrader.com/findacar/vdetail.jtmpl?car_id=123004626&dealer_id=&car_year=1993&make=FORD&distance=300&max_price=7000&model=F350&end_year=1994&advcd_on=n&min_price=&address=78118&search_type=used&advanced=n&start_year=1992&color=/)
a 4x4 (http://www.autotrader.com/findacar/vdetail.jtmpl?car_id=123163376&dealer_id=4062665&car_year=1993&make=FORD&distance=300&max_price=7000&model=F350&end_year=1994&advcd_on=n&min_price=&address=78118&search_type=used&advanced=n&start_year=1992&color=/)
I want one of these to put jeep in back (http://www.autotrader.com/findacar/vdetail.jtmpl?car_id=123165224&dealer_id=570588&car_year=1994&make=FORD&distance=300&max_price=7000&model=F350&end_year=1994&advcd_on=n&min_price=&address=78118&search_type=used&advanced=n&start_year=1992&color=/)

I have 150k and the only think I know of that went wrong is the dual mass flywheel and the brushes in the alternator after 150k. There is a small oil leak on the top of the motor, but there is so much damn oil running around in a diesel that I can't find it. The guys on this forum can help you with any problem you have with a Powerstroke. They even give IH, Ford, Napa, VZ part numbers and prices. I don't know why you've had such bad luck with yours eight.

How well do you take care of them?
Warm them up before running hard?
Cool em off at idle after running hard?
Avoid idling for extended periods of time?
Regular maintenence?

Don't rule out a Powerstroke. Visit www.thedieselstop.com and go to the forums.

Yep to all of those, Nutz. How long have you had yours? Didn't you allready spend some money on a flywheel? Didn't you have some white smokey cold starts? Got any idea what that's gonna cost if you ever want it to start at 0 degrees? Better hope it doesn't start shaking too much. Say if they were all equal in reliability, what costs the most to fix?
The powerstroke would be worth it if you pulled alot and just wouldn't buy a dodge (like the rest of my family), but for a 3500lb jeep there's no point.
I don't mean that the cummins can't break, I had to put a thermostat in mine. And it might need a $90 lift pump in the future. Of course I could update my list of powerstroke problems too.

Shakes are sometimes caused by a screen in the fuel line that gets clogged. I'll let you know how it feels after I clean mine. I also admitted to having to purchase the flywheel. How long do most clutches last? 150k?? Mine did.

The white smoke problem was cured by waiting 5-10 more seconds before starting it. The glow plugs are fine.

<Jackie Voice> Yes Michael... you obviously know everything about powerstrokes... they own. <Jackie Voice>

I have loved mine so much over the last 5 years that I'm going to buy a dodge for my next truck and thank God i got out while I could. I don't think you'll ever catch me in another Ford truck unless you also catch me replacing trucks every 2-3 years.

I'm trying real hard not to get in a Powerstroke vs. Cummins argument. I like Cummins, but I don't like the trash can they put them in. Everyone else on the Powerstroke forum likes them as well. I've grown up with Ford and I will always be one of those stubborn people who never look to the other two of the big three.

And eight...

You worry about the glow plug system... Glow plugs are like $8 each and the relay is about $16. You got robbed at the dealer, but you should have known that already.

Doug...

I don't know everything, nor will I ever. What I do know is that the vast majority of people who post with problems at the forum I'm on have their problems solved in a few days for a small of amount of time and money because the guys on the forum know so much about their trucks. I'm sure it's the same with each manufacturer, but the big cost comes with getting robbed from the dealer or some other auto shop. I don't know what the hell you did or didn't do to yours, but I know for sure that you didn't take good care of it. Who's fault is that, the truck or yours? Care to list all of your problems that you've had?

Edit: Buy your Poserstroke parts at an IH dealer and save 40-50%

Done... BTW I have perused that board... I have ZERO interest in spending my time learning to fix my tow rig/ daily driver... my toys take up too much time.

well my old man's dodge has somewhere around 160K and I promise you he beats the **** outta it way more than you'll ever do to any truck you own, its a farm truck, and it feels/sounds/rides better than any ford w/ that many miles
