View Full Version : 33's on a TJ

Okay, my sis wants to shove some bigger tires on her stock TJ. I have a line on some good 33's, and she wants them. But she doesn't really want to spend much on a lift. So how would be the best way to get those things to fit on a budget. This thing is a mall runner, so I don't think much lift is required, but I don't want to have to listen to any bitchin when the tires decide to get friendly with the sheetmetal going over a speedbump, so I guess a little lift is in order. Would spacers be enough? Give me some ideas here.

Spacers are enough, but if she hits a bump hard enough she's going to hit fender flare.

I would recommend the exact same lift I have and that Zach Farrington has had. Find a 2" ProComp lift - either springs and shocks or just springs. Throw the springs on with either ES9000s or some Rancho RS5000s (they're the same damn thing). She'll be cruising the mall in style....Just like me...:(

I would say a 1" to 2" body lift and some coil spacers, but I have little experience with size requirements for tj's. A 4" suspension lift will clear 33's off road, so a 1" body and 2" spacers should work for a mall crawler, that is my reasoning anyway...

Body lifts are bastards on TJs if she wants to keep her A/C. In order to get one to work that's over 1" you have to modify all kinds of wiring and ductwork that's under the dash. If you want to just get by on minimal lift, get 2" spacers and a 1" body lift. She'll end up needing new shocks soon.

What I recommended costs about $350 brand new if you don't have friends in the auto parts business. RS5000s can be had for cheaper than I got them for, and the ProComp 2" springs can be found for less than $200 easily. If you don't mind waiting a week or so watch the JU for sale board. These lifts sell on there all the time.

Okay, no body lift then. I'm thinking spacers are the way to go. I'll tell her about the deal on POR and see what she says.

Personally I think we should just do the old sawzall lift on the thing, but she says no. :(

Damnit Chris if you take a sawzall to a new TJ just to clear some tires im gonna woop your ass. The deal on POR is the best shot.

that deal on POR is awesome, basically the same as I was suggesting but with not-so-great shocks

if she wants a picture I'll post one of my Jeep so she can see how "cool" it'll look

and here are some bling bling wheels if she's interested - they're cheap to someone I know

I think I even have some caps for them that say "American Racing Wheels" so they'll look super cool

I showed blondie the pic and she likes it.

Come on nick, whats wrong with a little fender trimmin? :D For once I could actually enjoy doing some work on that thing.

And eric, I guess she's gonna take them, so figure out what you want to trade.

you want to buy the wheels? :D

if not, oh well...

If you need any help with anything ask, I can take pics of mine for illustrative purposes. That lift is very easy to do, the only thing that takes time is adjusting the cam bolts on the front lower control arms and readjusting the steering toe-in. Like I said, if you need more pics just ask, and if you need any help when you start the lift I'm always online and my cell number is 361-688-1864

She likes the wheels, but she already has a set of american racing rims on the jeep that will work. So we'll probally just reuse them. I'll definitely give you a call if I I have any more questions.
