An email from Suzie - does anyone know where she should go?

Hey Lynda! It was good to talk to ya'll this weekend! Do you know if anyone in the club has used Jeep Masters in Austin for any work on their jeeps? Mine needs to have the clutch looked at b.c it's sticking/slipping (?) a little and I'm having some trouble getting it into gear. I would ask the forum, but I haven't paid my dues (bad Suzie). Who do I pay my dues to? I need to like mail them to somebody.

i could probably help her out and take a look at it next saturday, might just be hydraulics (slave cyl.). i've never heard anything about jeep masters, but i'd imagine that since they're specifically jeeps it'd be more expensive for the specialization. also, i could probably take her dues since i'm here in town.

Have her ask the guys on LHOR - a lot of them like Jeep Masters, some of them are absolutely opposed to even setting foot in their door.

Yall remember she is in Austin. She said its just hard to get in gear and sometimes grinds. I told her check her clutch juice first then worry. If anyone is up there this summer they might want to give her a call to help her out. I'm sure she'll buy you a pack of beer for your endevours.

as much as she rides her clutch, it could easily be the clutch and not just the clutch master/slave combo

If it's hard to shift into gear she could also be low on fluid. Tell her to check the clutch fluid. If it's low, ask her if she's noticed a puddle on the ground after it has sat in a parking lot for a while. If that's not it, have her find someone to check the tranny fluid. THEN take it to someone like Jeep Masters - but if she does that have her contact LHOR first because some of those guys are really good friends with them and can make sure she doesn't get ripped.

don't forget to check the muffler bearing and the blinker fluid. I once had a hard to shift transmission, pulled over, and I'll be d a m n e d, would you believe the blinker fluid was bone dry!

the response:
Ok so Jeep masters called me back....and here's what they want to do:

Clutch (mind you what I took it to them for): nothing...they say it's fine. but they'll change the fluid so maybe then i wont notice the problem so much

Radiator: 364 to replace it. apparently it leaks?

snap belt or some belt that starts with an s (cant read the writing): its cracked....109 to replace it

All Fluids changed: 239

Motor mounts: they're torn so itll drive better if theyre replaced.....for 270

Huh? I thought the clutch was going out!

Lynda replaced her own radiator, I think it cost her about $200 to buy it.
A serpintine belt cost about $20 I think for a Jeep, PITA for a 4 banger but I have done it at least 5 of 6 times (you have to take it off for everthing)

motor mounts - no idea how much they cost but I would guess about $30 a piece. These are very easy to replace.

fluids: seems like they are screwing her there too, I always change my own but that sounds steep and the rear end is new so that doesn't need it anyways.

its a hydraulic clutch, not like a cj. bad motor mounts won't affect it.

she's getting screwed, take it to some old guy that lives in his shop, not a jeep specialist.

is anybody else seeing the offers by austin to check this out for suzie? maybe i'm the only one who hasn't "blocked" him???
he is IN AUSTIN, and although a jacktard, still a pretty good mechanic... i'd be kinda insulted if it were me offering and STILL the rig were taken to a shop, that OBVIOUSLY is trying to steal suzie's money.
they offered to overcharge for all the normal chit.. my mom gets that treatment at jiffylube... "uh, yea ma'am, looks like the k'nooter valve is discombobulated. gonna be $150 just for the labor... parts'll have to be shipped in."
