ok, the 304 has been sittin for a week or so, well i put the heads back on tonight, and was just fawkin around w/ it, and when i put my finger over the plug hole on the compression stroke, i can hear air escaping into the block, does this mean the rings are fawked or just because it ain't got much oil to help seal them and its just bleedin past?

do you have a compression tester? i have one somewhere i might could dig up....that would be your best bet...

could be the rings. one reason it may be the rings is that you just had your heads done not to long ago. if the engine is high mileage, w/ the redone heads the compression looks for a weak link. sense the heads were just rebuilt, the weak link isn't there. So, piston rings let go. like steven said compression test the thing. Should have done that about two weeks ago...

well i got it all back together, and everything seems ok now, no smoke, no bubbles in the water, runnin like its supposed to, i still need to do a compression check on it though

and you might have just heard the opening of your exhaust valves after ignition, some times you can hear the rings blow by at low RPM and when the piston is at TDC with compression.
