here's the thread, I doubt I'll make it out this weekend. everyone planning on going speak up.

we usually drive down Friday night and camp Friday and Saturday. I'm sure there will be a group going Saturday morning also.

if you're taking your rig you need to have watched the safety video. if you still need to see it get ahold of Josh Alley.

Also, if you're going send your name, SS# and emergency contact (name and phone number) to Josh Alley.

Josh's email address is safety@tamor.org

I think I'll be going to Gilmer. And I'll probably head out Friday.

Kevin, you gonna bring the Bronco out? (either of them?)

I'm going out on Saturday, just for the day probably. I am going to check on Airstrip, and work on some campground stuff for the IH roundup that is happening the next weekend. I don't think I will be doing a lot of trails, but that is what a work weekend is. The next weekend, will be all wheeling, and I will probably be out there all weekend. Here is a link to the binder run weekend, all are welcome, not just scout freaks.

whoever gets to go, y'all have fun.

How much wheeling are we going to do? Or since this is a cleanup weekend are we mainly going to be working with Airstrip? I'd like to go but i'm not sure yet.

lissa
10-14-2003, 01:51 PM
Airstrip is pretty self sufficient, a short hill climb. I will mostly be working with other stuff with the Binder guys getting ready for the next weekend, but plan on running a couple trails too.
This is Jimmy again...

10-15-2003, 10:17 AM
I got a nice, cheap one as well. Puting it in today. I still need to grab an antenna though. I agree that if there isn't a very large group on fri, then i'll head out early saturday.

like i said before, let's get a few people that want to go FOR SURE. and set a time when to leave etc. I can't leave till after 4:00PM on friday. I'll be willing to leave asap on sat. 5am 6am 7am whatever. I can print out directions and lead... but I won't take responsibilty if we end up in mexico. ***. :flipoff2:

dont go by mapquest directions or whatever....they always suck...the lil disclaimer at the bottom of there site says make sure these roads still exist before you take them... ...the easiest way to get there is:

go up 6 to 21
right on 21 to 39(north Zulch)
left on 39 to 79(jewitt)
right on 79 palestine...
here you can take a left on the loop(loop 256 i think) before you get to palestine and then a left on 155.....or you can go through palestine on 79 and take a left on the loop after you pass palestine and a right onto 155...i would suggest the first...
155 to loop 323 around tyler
right on loop 323
go around to 271
right on 271 and take that all the way into gilmer...someone there will know where to point you..

that is the way i went last time i was there...i dont know if anyone else goes taht way or not but im sure they will post up...

I definitely cannot go now, i have to go to houston. Sorry guys, I know it'll be hard, but try to have fun without me. I'm sure there will be other toyotas to pull you out.

stx4wheeler
10-16-2003, 02:16 PM
hey brandon do you think you might have time to do me a favor if it isnt to much trouble the cb i bought is in houston and the guy wants liek ten bucks to ship maybe if it is kindsa close to where you are going you could pick it up for me if not no problem

oh yeha and if its a small group going i prolly will wuss out to and save the gas money for another trip or some kind of lift

BigRedFord04
10-16-2003, 04:08 PM
for all you newbs who havent been to Gilmer i will say this: Gilmer is NOT very fullsize friendly. Trails are narrow and have a lot of tight turns. If you wanna go expect at a minimun scratched up paint. if you've got a long wheel base, expect a lot of 50 point turns. and i would definately recommend running all the 3 diamonds backwards :flipoff2: (who the hell lead that venture???)
this is one of my favorite pics from there. it was just as tight on the other side. thx to great spotting i never touched the tree w/ body panels.

Didn't you break one in llano too? are you locked up front? very hard on the skinny, or both?

Violentv8toy
10-17-2003, 12:41 AM
DAMN AUSTIN.:o

those were aluminum i figure?

Most guys that break them spin the whole axle up.

BigRedFord04
10-17-2003, 01:47 AM
nope, definately not aluminum...way too heavy for that. some kinda cast iron. lift blocks just suck, thats why they broke.

I've broken 4 or 5? Hell I don't know seems like every trip I almost break one. I have an eaton posi in the front. I use it like a canadian locker by putting one foot on the brake so it gets resistance on both wheels, thats how i broke the one in Llano this time. After I brake one I try to take it easy.

Glad to hear that things came out...okay. When we were at Gilmer last, Me, Josh, Brian, and Norm all tipped forward on that little hole. That sucks, man, but it could have been a lot worse. At least it's not too far from that hole to the bottom. And you were just talking about a rollcage too!

btw: nice gas tank skid plate

Doug Krebs
10-20-2003, 09:03 AM
The roll sucked...that hole has gotten alot worse. If you don't know how bad it is you don't know to gas it until it's to late. Freddy, Robert, and I were waiting on the bad part of airstrip for jimmy to come up and we heard it. We set up a snatch block to a tree on the side of it and had a guy pull it over from the bottom.

We had to have a little fun on the way home to offset the roll. We got many funny looks and passed 3 state troopers. We took a break at a truck stop and when we rolled up the indian that owned the store looked a little nervous. Fred and robert got some coffee went inside and got some coffee, but they did take off their googles and pulled down their bandana's. The guy finally realized why we had all the crap on when we got back in and started laughing and waving through the window at us.
