alright my gf wants to get a heep. I am not so excited about it my self but anyway.

its a 93 heep with 112K on it. the guy rebuilt the motor 10k ago. He has proof that he did it so i am beliving the guy. it has the rear CV shaft thing on it. and a 5 inch lift no sure on what kind of lift. it also has 4.56's with some gay procomp 33's. the guy wants $5500. it also has the stock axles. other than that the guy seems to have taken really good care of the heep. also he has two tops.

anyone have any commments thanks.

Looks good to me.... But it says "Ready to Hunt"! Kinda cracks me up, thats what they said about mike's bronco I think. Ah I remember the days of the stock bronco excursions in the mud.

robertf03
10-15-2003, 04:27 PM
DONT DO IT!!!

5500 will get you a 6 cylinder, the rest of those mods dont matter because all that stuff will be broken and replaced if its wheeled with this group.

ready to hunt up here usually means it won't pass emissions testing

Whats the guys name? Tthere was a black YJ in tx4x4 wrecked a couple months back. He was trying to sell it after he repaired everything.

It looks really familiar I think I have wheeled with it somewhere before.

That sounds like it would end up bad on your end. With a rebuilt engine and no way to know how the lift and other mods were done, you could very well be buying someone else's problem. Hell, I bought my Jeep from a family friend and have had nothing but problems with it. Mine had ~50000 miles on it when I got it and has not gone a full 10,000 miles without something major breaking. It's the TJ version of that Jeep, too - 4 cyl, 5 spd, stock axles.

I had the engine professionally rebuilt the first time and it hasn't been the same since, so don't believe that crap about that one being faster than a 6 cyl Jeep.

Doug I PM'd you the VIN.

it doesnt look too bad...but as others have said i personally would look for a bone stock one....however, on the other hand, you can take that one out and do some wheelin with it almost as soon as you get it. if you get a stock one you will have to SOA, gear, lock, tires, and SYE before youll be good to go....

on second thought...it is perfect for a starter jeep...you dont really need somethig that is fast...looks like a good buy after all the mods are considered...or rather how much youll have to fork over to get them....

Edit:offer him 4500....if he bites great....if not offer go home....tell him sorry wait a day or so and then call him back and offer 5000....hell prolly take it then...

You've heard their skepticism now. They are so negative when it comes to used vehicles. I think your best option is to go with Mike and have a look at this Jeep. Scott is in Houston, maybe he could ride along. It could be a piece of ****, it could be really nice. No one will know judging by the picture...

Check out the 5 or so pages of this thread I started. Most told me not to get it. One even said Powerstrokes are ****ty and recently bought one. Let them bring up the issues you should check out and make the decision for yourself.

By the way, the truck has been good to me for the last year.

I am planning on driving to houston to look at it this weekend.. I think mike has something to do.. so I might just wait...or go anyways.. the guy is in a hurry to get rid of it and told me to pretty much make him the lowest offer for it, and id be surprised what he'd take.... If I am not impressed with it I will wait and look more.

StevenAg03
10-15-2003, 08:39 PM
in that case offer him 4000 for it

Mack84
10-15-2003, 08:50 PM
Yeah that is exacty what I am thinking. My dad is talking to the guy so hopefully they will not discuss $$ until we look at it. If its ok I will offer 4 and if he says no I will just leave. And wait a few days or until he calls me bc he really wants to sell it

They're still POSes. Don't get to thinkin I won't sell it and buy a good truck.

Jeeps are different. They're easy and cheap to work on. You can't fool yourself into thinking they won't break, and they readily accept parts from fords, chevys, dodges, and even bigger jeeps. Maybe you could roll Mike's bronco pretty hard then steal the good parts from it.

I think it's a pretty good deal. The 4 cylinder has enough power. The axles will probably hold up to 33s, and it's almost ready to go. Needs front locker, weld rear and wait for it to explode or ebay the shafts and gears and swap in an 8.8. Now if you bought a stock one, you have to spend $600 on tires and wheels, $400 on gears, $150 to get a better rear axle, $350 on SYE and CV shaft, $300-700 on lift, and you still don't know how good the engine/trans/t-case are.

Or you could wait and get a scrambler like everyone wants (even those who won't admit it :D ). But they're even bigger pieces of ****.

there all a ton of heeps in the club with 4 cylinder's. whats the deal with the 6. is it that much better

bburris
10-15-2003, 10:09 PM
YES it is. Go to a Jeep dealer and drive both and tell me there's no difference. Try to maintain highway speeds in a lifted 4 cyl Jeep. I had 4.10s and it's always been hell holding 70 - even when I had 31s. A friend just put a lift on his 6 cyl YJ and got 35s for it. With 3.07s he could hold 80 at 1600 RPMs.

Someone said 4cyls have 140hp or whatever, but once you push that through an undergeared transmission, a transfer case, and then use it to turn 33s, that equates to about 50 hp in a normal car.

Don't let me talk you out of it, but I am somewhat the voice of experience when it comes to buying a used 4 cyl Wrangler. If you want it, buy it - if you get a good price, great. It may be a dream. It may turn into a nightmare. Good luck with the Jeep purchase either way.

StevenAg03
10-15-2003, 10:15 PM
to me buying a jeep is more like a long term investment...i dont really plan on getting rid of it any time in the near future....that being said, one day you will probably swap it out for a bigger engine....possibly that dream 302 thats in your bronco...but i wouldnt steer away fromit cause its a 4cyl. will this be her only vehicle? or a spare?

fbronco86
10-15-2003, 10:34 PM
this would be her only car.

jerryg79
10-15-2003, 10:36 PM
dont those tranny's run out of gear at like 75 stock? I could be wrong on that, but it seems like that would be hell for highway speeds since it has 456's

Chadnutz
10-15-2003, 10:41 PM
I would also go for the I6...

Mack84
10-15-2003, 10:42 PM
I am not planning on keeping the 4.56's .... i think

Ben97XJ
10-15-2003, 10:49 PM
4.56s and 33 should be perfect for the 4cyl. Without those gears the motor is worthless. they come with 4.10 and 235s stock.

Yeah but 9" and D44 > Dana 30, 35. More aftermarket, more tranny options, CLASSIC, FORD. What more do you need?

I dream of EB.

MORE AFTERMARKET for an EB, are u ****in serious, have you ever looked at any off-road suppliers web page? they usually dedicate a whole selection to just jeeps, i know of 4 aftermarket companies strickly dealin w/ jeep

Who the **** really cares if we are talking about rock crawling! A 460 is cool just because it is a big block, but not so cool in rock crawling. Now if we are talking about mud thats a different story. I'd like to have an LS1 or an aluminum 302, but i'm gay.

Perhaps I should have made that more clear...

More aftermarket for the 302 than the I6....

haven't seen too many bronco's with 460's either ;)

redcagepatrol

the 4cyls are weak in the rolling box's. A lifted Heap for a daily driver is not a good option if you ask me - especially with a 4 banger. Cold in Winter, Hot in Summer, wet on rainy days etc...

The I-6's with a standard tranny and an empty Jeep are great. Feels like you are in a race car... You can do wheelies with a locker:D

stx4wheeler

well you can see the pics of my 460 n my 78 or go look at i think it is www.broncotech.com

and by the way i am not saying jeep motors are crap cause they did make some good ones i got a 76 wagoneer as a hunting buggy and it has the 360, not a whole of tire spinning horse power but combined with quadratrac it goes through the mud and crap pretty well, i also know that jsut depending on what you want and how much you wanna spend you can build an awsome motor out of anything, we used to build four bangers for the stock cars out of ford 2.3's that would put out around 300 horses
