Driveshaft play?

i can rotate the front driveshaft on the Ford about 30 degress or so when the truck is in neutral and the hubs are locked. Is this a problem? I've had a popping noise when it is under a lot of load before when compression braking on a steep hill.

Don't sound good. All there should be is a little unnoticable play from the hubs and the gear backlash. Check if the axle shaft u-joints are moving when you turn it. Maybe you got a bad hub or u-joints. I can sell you some autolockers cheap.
