View Full Version : Ideal Wheelbase

Well, since i've got my truck rolling now, I'm gonna play with my wheelbase a little. Right now i'm at 103" on 38s which is kinda short. The blocks in the rear kicked the axle forward a little bit, so it needs to be lengthened anyway to be centered in the wheel well. I'll probably redrill perches and drill a new hole in my rear spring mounts.

I'm thinking about trying to stretch it to 107" without making it look goofy. Since my t-case dropped down a bit with the new bushings, my drivelines are now a tad too long...but i think i can also stretch it a bit more and just either drop the truck a bit (lose the rear blocks, and lose the tallish front perches).

What are yalls wheelbases? what do you like about it? What would u change? What is the ideal wheelbase in your opinion?

111" with 36s but I have no idea how well it performs.

All in good time. MASON BABY!

Keep your pessimistic comments to your damn self! :flipoff2:

from watching everyone at TPP in katemcy last spring/summer/whenever i liked a lot how well kopecki's wheelbase did in respects to everyone else. Saw a couple YJs, some suzuki's and various long monstrosities and kopecki's did very well compared to other vehicles with about the same tire height but different lengths. i also really liked Swine's "TJ" which was ~115" i think. i'll be shooting for probably 110-115" on my eventual trail rig.

I'm at about 95" now with 36s and waaaay too much lift. It's going to be ~100" when I flip the rear springs, but hopefully I can lower the COG at the same time. When you're figuring wheelbase, you also need to factor in your COG.

My wheelbase is short and my COG is high, so it made some of the **** I was driving over in Llano a little hairier than it would have been in some other vehicles.

i will have to say, 141.5" is WAAAAAY too long, especially with big ass bumpers :flipoff2:

Right you are. 131" with 35s is a bit of a mismatch.

With 38s, it sounds like the 110" range might work well.

I'm shooting for 107" for the buggy, with better than 90* approach and departure angles except for the stinger.

everybody says that the best range is 100~110. I like my rigs longer and built mine at 107".

Moved my front forward today about 1"....just finished a little while ago. Hopefully that will be enough for the front d-shaft. Tomorrow i'll do my spring bushings.

Hey its an improvement...i was rolling it off the trailer and winching it back on when i got my exhaust done in Brayn. At least it wheels the urban jungle now and doesn't rub anywhere. :D
