I still havent come up w/ a good name for this yet so "project rig" will have to do for now.

most of the progress we made wrenching tonite was on what is now my project. got the TTB removed from Tate's broken frame, transmission x-member, gas tank, and leaf springs are out. disassembled the TTB and got the 3rd member out w/ the locker and got the hubs, bearings, etc off. progress thus far on both of our projects seems to be moving pretty well, but the easy part (tearing stuff down) is for the most part finished. now we get to really START on the projects in putting them together. here's how it sits now.

What're your plans for it?

austin, why did you take the 9" and the TTB off the frame? are you not planning on using the 9" that was in there? i know your not using the TTB, but at leaste when that was in there, you had a rolling chassis.

just curious

took the 9" off because i wanted my high dollar springs off it... the ttb just needed to come off... i think it is time to cut/box/sandblast/paint both of these frames... i needa go to waco and get my sandblasting equipment

i'm using (buying) tate's 9" complete and the 4.88s and EZ locker from the TTB to put into the solid 44 i have in the garage. currently building a 383 stroker, and will probaby use a 465 and Ford 205 with an adapter between them. no body, just tubing....and `94 Ranger seats. getting the leftover tubing from chadnutz to do the same steering setup as on my F150, which is convenient since i'll be putting the 8 lugs on my truck that i got from kopecki, and the knuckles off my truck are already drilled for 3/4" heims. i think i'm actually going to stretch the wheelbase a little from 105" by moving the front coil towers forward. doing so will also get my radius arm mounts out of the way of the worst break on tate's old frame. shackle flip in the back like john brown did, using the front shackles from the rear of the F350. 18 gallon tank from one of the two trucks, mounted in the factory spot with a huge plate underneath, bolted to the frame, to keep it from getting crushed. i'm in the market for a BIG radiator and a TPI setup for the 383.

Why not a NP435 or t-18? Came stock with the 205 you need and I think they're supposed to be easy to hook to a chevy motor. I think the Novak site has all the info needed.

link?

just for clarification, Ford D44 (driver's drop) and chevy motor/transmission. but you're saying use a Ford 435 like kate's truck has?

Yes, go to Novak's website (http://www.novak-adapt.com) and there's **** tons of info. Chevy motor, Ford NP435, Ford NP205 is what Kopecki was suggesting. You either adapt a Chevy motor to a Ford tranny or a Chevy tranny to a Ford t-case.

Only ones I know of laying around have divorced cases. Have you considered somethin like a 465/208 with a divorced 205 behind it? Probably gonna have enough wheelbase to do it.

Hmm, just remembered another old chevy 4x4 that should be laying around somewhere now, had a 4 speed.

What do you want for a NP435 that you may have laying around?

Austin - you could also mate a TH350 or something to your motor and use a newer NP241 out of a 88-98 Chevy and not have to buy any expensive adapters.

Well, its not my truck and I'd have to see what the farmer would want for the whole thing probably. May give it to me or some of these old men won't sell a dam thing. You'd be better off to find one at a yard or somethin. If I aquire anything I don't need it'll go up for sale. I've got a C6 and no use for it. It fits a FE, got that too. Wish I'd end up with some **** actually worth useing.

Ahh...I know how that is. In that same way of thinking I know where an NP435/D20 is laying around next to another NP435 in a truck like Kate's, which is sitting next to a decent bodied, running GPW. Damn hunters...

Its a C6 behind a 360 FE motor, a different bolt pattern than the 460. That what you want?

hey, i already called dibs on any 435 kopecki might have....quit suggesting stupid stuff to try and make me not want what you want. i want to run a manual. i like the 435/205 combo, and i could easily adapt it to a chevy bellhousing. 435 has a lower 1st gear than a 465 anyway, 6.69:1 vs. 6.32:1. i dont really wanna fool with dual cases. i dont think i need it yet. i'd rather get this thing on the trail and wheel for a while, then modify as i see fit.

as for progress....not much was made tonite. i torched the rivets off the rear spring hangers and knocked them off. took apart the 8 lugs the rest of the way so i can get them on my truck and be able to assemble my 44 soon. also disassembled the TTB the rest of the way and decided i'm going to take the 3rd member and my housing to those bastards @ J&P and have them set the gears. shouldnt cost too much.
