Anyone here ever built thier own fuel cell, or know anyone who has? I'm thinking of doing this, and using this stuff (http://www.eastwoodco.com/itemdy01.asp?T1=10165+Z&Dep_Key1=spc) to coat the inside.

I wouldn't. This past weekend I was at the Decatur Swap Meet NW of Fort Worth and they had 8 and 12 gal aluminum fuel cells for 40 bucks (same ones from Jegs or Summit). I would wait until the Pate swap meet which is at the end of April/ early May and buy one there

I've read about those cheap aluminum fuel cells cracking on pirate. People get really pissed when it happens on the trail, a 10 inch split is not going to fun.

yea, that's why i've decided to skip the aluminum ones from summit or jegs, i've heard of way too many of them cracking and spliting, and a custom or quality built one is $$$$, so i was just thinking of making one

if you get the cheap ones, you better mount it good to keep it from cracking. Don't get a plastic one, they suck.

DavidO and I had ours made at RCI by Johnny. Mine cost about $280 if I remember correctly

i can make it my own dimensions and have baffles in it

all the sides and bottom could have 2 beads, one outside and one in, the top would only have a bead on the outside, but i plan on pressure testing it as well

and coat the inside w/ that stuff, and the outside get powdercoated maybe

what came w/ the $280, just the tank?

tank with the sender and all the fittings (3) and the roll-over vent on it. I had him put baffles in also - he builds lots of them for rockcrawlers. Keep in mind that the caps that I had to buy are like $8 a piece (another $35) but I wanted all of my options open for future engines etc...

You expect me to remember that? I think it was like 11" tall x 16" wide x 35" across (between the frame)

I was really tight on space back there - I tried to stuff it under the spare tire with enough clearence for full compression of my upper links.

You're not a student anymore. You have a job. Just buy one. :flipoff2:

Also, I don't think I paid that much. He ass raped Scott because he was an engineer and they know everything... and because he could. :D I on the other hand was a struggling entreprenuer = poor. I want to say $180.

yea, i know, but i think i'm takin your advice on needing some debt, and i'm lookin at buyin a new truck, so i need to build this thing for cheap, but if its only $180, then i think i should be able to swing that
