I know what your thinking, 2004 1/2's have 325 HP and 600ftlbs of torque. Cummins 600 or something?

Naw, just an '04, its only got 555 ft/lbs, and no 20's, just 17's.

Yea, maybe I should have gotten a powerstroke instead, or maybe a chevy, but its a too late now, so i'm stuck with this pile of ****, guess i'll have to make due

No 4wd mostly because of price, they wanted $31,000 for the 3/4 4 door, 4x4, lwb, I got this one because he sold it to me for $24,000 drive out and I really didn't need the 4wd.

you don't NEED 4x4 on a tow rig. all you really need are great brakes, tons of torque, and a one ton or greater rear dually axle to handle the loads. plus room for a goose neck. if you have fear that you won't be able to get to your stuck 4x4 to pull it out, then you probably need something more capable than a 4x4 tow rig. the 04 cummins is a venerable beast with lots of pull. the 04.5 is a brand new engine; potential for recalls, yet with a much desirable towing capacity.

Except if you want to pull a big ass boat out of the water on a steep, wet, moss covered boat ramp or when you want to pull a gooseneck load of round bales through a pasture or maybe when you go buy a load of lumber and need to deliver it to your wet muddy lake lot. Nah, you don't need 4wd drive on a tow rig but I do.

Actually it's the same engine with a few external upgrades. It has new injectors, new injection pump, and a different turbo from previous years.

The B series Cummins, first designed and built in 1948, has remained largely unchanged in its 50+ year history. How's that for tried and true?! Notable changes include better injection pumps (higher injection pressures) through the years, progressive drops in compression ratio, a 24V head, electronics, and pilot injection. The newest version of the Cummins actually shares the same injectors and injection pump with the Dmax.

I know that most four wheel and truck rags are saying that the engine is completely redesigned and everything, but that's just untrue. I don't think there will be too many problems with warranty since the components added for this newest generation CTD are well tested.

PS: I am officially addicted to reading the TDR forum :D

Not trying to be sour, just commenting on the resale value of the fine products from dodge. :)

You mean if he'd bought a chevy for 10K more it would have better resale value?

I don't care about the resale value on mine. I quit selling trucks, gonna keep it forever, set a new high miles record. I figure nobody ever comes out with much better ****, just newer ****.

I'm for the 4x4 tow rig. It will have a higher resale, but like Ryan says I don't buy trucks to sell them. They would never give me as much as my two trucks are worth to me so I may as well keep them around or at least let family or friends use them (in the event that I get a newer one).

I told Landon that 2wd buyers like him keep the price of one ton fronts high. Damnit Landon! :flipoff2:

But I will have to start talking some real **** if he keeps bragging that his 2004 technology beats my 1996 technology by a little bit. I'm $1200 away from a chip and injectors that will smoke my clutch. http://www.swamp-donkey.biz/injectors.htm

The "Baby Swamps" are part of a chip and injector package designed to take a stock 94-97 from 175 to over 300 rwhp for under $1000. The first test truck dynoed 265 rwhp and the second 312 with off-the-shelf chips, and a third 353 with custom tuning. These injectors do not include new nozzles.

(All these trucks needed new clutches or transmissions within 2 weeks!)

Here I come mofo!

yet, his truck needs no mods performed to have similar numbers off the dealer lot...

Not quite the 7xx ft*lbs of torque, but he can get 1000 supposedly with some box....

oh yeah, and those numbers are at the wheels, not the flywheel.
