Yes, it's true. There is cheaper shipping available. When I was looking for an affordable way to ship my D60/C14 combo down from Boston to College Station (basically Houston, TX), I received quotes as high as $1,400 for the pair.

Then in all of my searching, I ran across this page: CargoReservations.com

If you ever deal with shipping stuff, bookmark this page. This website is sweet. Once you create a user, you're able to create a RFQ. Then comes the cool part. The companies on the other end will submit quotes for your move.

In my case, I decided that it was worth getting both sets of axles that were available. I had 4 axles (2 - GM D60s and 2 - C14s = almost 2,000 lbs. total) shipped for less than.....

less than $500.

That may not be as cheap as some of you can get it, but for Joe Schmoe pricing, it was by far the best I was quoted. Better for both sets than the next company was for a single pair.

At first, I was a little weirded out by the setup. None of the businesses that you will hear from are "brand names". I was a little worried that I would buy this shipment, someone would show up with a truck and flatbed trailer, and I'd never see my stuff again. I didn't want to recommend it to anyone until my gunea pig testing was done. But sure enough, today my axles showed up. They were shipped Yellow Freight. The same company that quoted me $1,400 over the phone for ONE set. Go figure.

I dealt specifically with Tom from Global Freight out of Orlando. What a sweet deal! It wasn't necessarily a speedy process (mainly because of issues with me and the seller and vacation), but it definitely saved me a TON of cash.

Just thought I'd share the good news. ~dso

PS- I have a matched GM D60/C14 set for sale in Texas. Free delivery (by me) to anyone within 3 hours of College Station, TX. This covers the 3 major metro areas (Houston, DFW, SA/Austin). http://www.tamor.org/forum/upload/showthread.php?s=&threadid=382

Update: http://cargoreservations.com/ & http://www.cargoreservations.com/ don't seem to go the same place. The 'www' one (blue & white) is the one I used.
