Okay so the title doesn't even make sense, shocks aren't as cool as lockers, and it's a copycat design (budbuilt), but I finally got rear shocks on the ugly truck:

upper mount:

lower mount:

Total cost: about $30 including shocks (david olivers old shocks, mounting posts off Rancho 9012s from Xtreme, a little metal, some spray paint and some muffler clamps)

Thats way too much of an angle isn't it??

well, I was thinking about the body roll issues and whatnot about having shocks mounted like that, and if I understand it correctly, shocks are not as effective mounted this way (they act like they're softer), but since I don't have any weight back there I figured it would be okay. Better than nothing!

That is a lot of angle. Could you possibly make the top mount a little more widely spaced to get a little more angle? When I did mine I set it up so that the shocks attached above the round crossmember. It was the only way to get my shocks to fit in there. I know your shocks are pretty short, so that may not be an option for you

Those shocks are a lot longer than I'm using, so I could stretch them out some
but I'll probably wait until I get the rest of my suspension figured out before I mess with it again. it's kind of low in the rear. I may end up making 2 separate upper shock mounts eventually.

Damn those are some junky looking shocks! I bet they were expensive. ;)

I think you need a few more u-bolts on the upper mount :flipoff2:

Anything worth doing is worth overdoing, right? :D

okay, since you guys' sassification is my #1 priority, I'm gonna make a new upper mount that'll let me mount them either of these ways:

Sure, when I clicked on the thread I figured you were talking about this anyway...

At that angle you still get about 1/2 the damping of your shocks. Which is probably good cause there's about not much weight there, and they use the same shock valving on suburbans and other such heavy ****. See how you like it before you cut it off, or um, unbolt it.

cool...that's what I was trying to verify
at a 45* angle, my shocks work half as well (the truck puts twice the force on each shock)?

why didn't you weld all the mounts on? Just curious, not bashing or anything, I mounted my shocks like that and the very next time I was out, I rolled it...come to think about it, so did Chris...weird.

bolt on...
it's gotta be better than the no shocks I ran on the past 3 trips, right? And do you think the shocks really had anything to do with your endo?

45* is about 70%. 30* about like you have is about 50%.

Well actually, I didn't have the shocks like that during the roll. They were in the stock (parallel to the frame) location. I was gonna do u-bolt flip before the trip, but never got the time. The lower mounts were on the spring plates, so I just fabbed up the top mount out of some scrap. I didn't have a welder around, so a bolt on setup was easy and quick.

I also saw ugly's setup today, and the angle is pretty wierd, but seems to work, and like eight said, with shocks meant for a whale . . . I mean a suburban :flipoff2: , they should be fine.

shocks are over rated. Bring that POS by and we'll weld some thing on.
