Ok, so I was sold on Nylon line as a replacement for steel cable this past weekend when I saw how much lighter it was (I have a removable winch that is way too heavy). Question is, where should I get it? I couldn't even find it on 4wpw.com

i like mine alot, it was under $94 for 1/4" by 100 feet and only weighed like 6 oz., i would probably at least get the 5/8" for your vehicle though. rockstompers prices are the best also... the one on the ramsey website is like $700 or something crazy like that.

Of course the guy I talked to at Katemcy said they were like 50 bucks, but he may have been wrong.

After doing some reading I may need a new fairlead anyway as I think mine is steal and may be a bit chewed up, which is a no-no, evidently.

its not really that big of a deal, i run mine with the old fairlead, yes it is better to use the one that goes with it but its not an immidiate necessity

If you run it, get a composite(just came out-can't remember who makes it) or aluminum hawse fairlead. I know a few places offer these besides people like warn and such. The only downfalls I can see in the synthetic winch cable is you can't use it to lower your vehicle if your winch uses an internal brake to stop- it will get too hot and melt the line. The other is it's not very abrasive resistant-so if you use your winch for any kind of work- i.e. pulling down trees and buildings that got knocked over by a tornado etc :)- you have to be extra careful not to damage the line- be sure to buy the anti-wear sleave that slides over the line. Also, you can't spool as much of the synthetic line as cable b/c the synthetic is fatter in DIA. The advantage- and it's a big one- there is very little stored energy in the line, unlike a cable, if it breaks it will usually just fall to the ground instead of whipping around and taking off people's heads. I like synthetic, but for the times I use my winch- usually for work-steel cable better suits me.
