i was driving down the road a couple days ago and for whatever reason i glanced at the front end of the luxury SUV behind me. i saw what appeared to be a passenger drop differential. so i slowed down and got a better look. sure enough it looked to be straight axled. its not easy to look under a moving SUV while trying to drive in traffic, but i swear it appeared that way.

i think it was a SL450 or something like that. anybody ever seen this?

this lexus shows to have IFS
"ROUGHING IT" SHOULDN'T INCLUDE THE RIDE. That's why the RX 300 is equipped with fully independent MacPherson strut suspension. Front and rear anti-vibration subframes. And engine-speed-sensing progressive power rack-and-pinion steering. So it has the ride and luxury of a sedan.

He might be talking about the bigger Lexus SUV...if that's the case, it has whatever a Landcruiser has in the front.

It would have been the Lexus LX 470, same body as the Landcruisers. They might have been solid axled for a few years, but I am pretty sure that in at least 99, they were IFS.

edit:

Lexus did make a LX 450, which was the same body as the LX 470, just different motors. They probably went to IFS when they changes to the 470.

Anyone know when they changed to the 470?

ok then i'm not crazy. i haven't seen one since then... but i was pretty sure i saw a straight axle under there.

Damn thing. It shows on my system. I guess it's just cached. Here's the link: The New Mercedes CabrioKick (http://www.geocities.com/Baja/Canyon/7028/Photogallery1.htm) They'll take your left nut as a down payment.

theres a few of those in the area i'm stayin' in this summer...one even has a shiny warn winch on it. another is always parked in front of a house around the corner from me that i'm sure is no less than 10K square feet and has 3 rolls royces parked in the garage...not to mention the Kompressor and the FORD Lightening always parked out front.

Well look at the bright side, at least you know where to go when you need your next fix.

yeah, a little hesitant to wheel a vehicle that is not mine and you can't get pics when you are driving. The pics are from the trails around Santa Fe.
