Hey, whats the difference in quality between a Warn Winch and a Milemarker winch? (besides mile marker being 50% of the price of a warn?)

Check out the T-Max winches (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=246205&highlight=tmax). Haven't heard anything bad about them and are cheaper than warn. If I was going to be using the winch alot I'd go with a warn.

the military uses milemarker so they must be good. i dont know anybody with a milemarker everybody has warn or ramsey. in my opinion the only difference is price and warn has a lifetime warranty. im going with a milemarker 8 for my xj when i get to that stage of mods

Which milemarker are you looking at. The hyrdo or electric? If your looking at the hydro. remember your engine has to be running to use it which might be the reason your winiching in the first place.

You do remember that the government grants equipment manufacturing to the lowest possible bidder. Go Warn.

I've heard mixed reviews about milemarker and ramsey electric winches, but never a bad thing said about Warns. Its what I have.

i'll go with warn. TSC has a good price on the 8k ones. Could I get away with that on my chopped up blazer, or should i go for the 9.5xp?

i used the warn 8000 on my 77 blazer. it had enough power to pull it out of some pretty nasty stuff. i was always giving it a little gas to help it out though, not sure how well it would pull if the truck was turned off.

Most blazer guys over on CK5 use a 9k. A really popular one is the Warn 9500it or ti or something like that. The best prices I've found online were on http://www.clemson4wheel.com/. I bought my Warn M12000 there for $1009 shipped to my door :gigem: You cant beat that, not even on ebay.

i had a ramsey. the magents inside the motor disintegrated and basically destroyed the winch. the solenoids ramsey uses are "ramsey specific" so you have to buy their parts, warns on the other hand use common solenoids available at any parts store.

in Hot Springs, i watched 2 Warn 8000s just quit working, wouldnt spool in. the 9500ti's are supposedly a lot better quality. either way, i think warn is the way to go. one of foley's buddies got his warn stolen, perfect opportunity to buy something else with the insurance $$, and he went back to a Warn. tried and true, he was that happy with it.

dont buy a winch... you dont need one... spend you money on axles, tube, sheet metal and tires and gearing....

i have a winch and only use it to pull out other people when needed as a last resort

save your $1000 and use it for trailer rentles for the next five years :flipoff2:

I think I've only been hooked to a winch once. Go to TSCO and get a good strap
If you'll be wheeling by yourself a lot you might invest in a good comealong.
spend your money on axles, gears and protection, or save it for stuff that breaks
