This weekend at Cibolo I put a big dent in the body of the Grand below the door. I don't really care that its there, I just want to build some rock sliders or put some big piece of steel between the rocks and the paint so I can avoid explaining why the bottom of the ZJ looks like I took a sledge to it. The ones that Coop made look good, welded right into the frame. I wish I didn't put up with the :rainbow: unibody crap that the Zj has. Does anybody know where to get or can get some steel? I probably could make the whole thing out of 1 1/2 or 2 inch square or round tube and weld it to the unibody rail under there and weld in some supports or something. But then again I don't have a welder or a driveway or more than one toolbox and a drill here. If anyone has some advice or wants to help, I would greatly appreciate it. I'll be sure to include some  . :gigem:

Probably will work. I think I'll design around what I can get my hands on. How much you got?

It'll be a year or two before I'll be in a position to get the cj from my uncle. I'm sure I could steal it for a weekend trip in south texas though. It has a tow bar, but I don't have a receiver on the ZJ. I'd rather put effort in the CJ, but I won't be able to for a while.

2x2 would work best but you don't need to weld them to the unibody. There is a pinch seam right below the rockers and you need to bolt the rockers to that to distribute the load along the entire rocker panel and them 2 or 3 supports to the frame will suffices and you can just use selftapping bolts for those. You can come look at mine some time and see what i mean.

Those plans need to be adjusted and improved but it is a good picture. The angle mount bolts to the pinch seam. On mine it is made of 1x1 square tubing.

Yea, that looks good. Maybe add a plate or another tube up 2 inches at an angle to protect the body from getting stabbed. Which is what happened at Cibolo. How much did making those set you back?

I found a picture of some that a company makes that uses an angled tube to protect the body below the doors, but I can't figure out how to put it in the post.

the main square tube should be 3/16 but the tube you can use .120 wall tubing.
