This is giving everybody plenty of time to get your rigs finished...
Nutz? You gona make it?

Most of the old trails have been re-opened along with some new trails on some new land (newer than Frielands land)

Look for the Patrol there with a few mods (hopefully)

How far is it from here? I'm hoping to have my rig partially completed by then. Hopefully I can find a trailer for it as well. If any of you guys see a gooseneck for sale, grab the number and let me know. Give you a free tow or something if I end up buying it;p

I think he meant insurence period, not on just your rig, as in, theres no way anyones gonna insure you. :flipoff2:

Anyways, yes this trip will be awsome, just like the ones of the past. Clayton is an awsome place to wheel, not to full size friendly tho, for many of you thats not an issue. The more you got the better it will be.....i'm pumped!

There are some trails that are only narrow from undergrowth, so some pinstriping is all you'd get.

It's Freiling's property where you should park the full-size and watch the little guys. Green Acres isn't too bad - same brush issue.

For full-sizes (and I guess everybody), the real badass thing about Clayton is that for nearly every obstacle that is narrow, and for nearly every obstacle that you just don't want to try, there's a bypass.

If I had 4wd, I'd pimp that ****. :(

that truck would be COMPLETLY demolished if he took it up there. Clayton is NOT full-size friendly. He WILL get dents is he actually takes it on a trail - I have yet to see a full-size go on a trail out there without getting dents.

COST is free if we stay on the old property or $10?? a day at Frelands (you drop money in a box) - the other new land is probably also $10/day/truck

Violentv8toy
11-02-2004, 02:59 PM
well hes not afraid of dents....but he certainly doesn't wanna roll it right out of the box.

Matt Conlee
11-02-2004, 03:10 PM
The old property is probably the best place for a truck that size. the old trails seem to be wider than some of the newer ones on Frelands but I bet that rig would be fun to see run 3 stage.

davido

I can't wait to see it break either..... er, work either.

ha ha ha ha :D

Cool truck, but I would recommend he buy a Sami also. He could just leave it in Clayton when he's done. It'll be less than his body shop bill.

agjohn02
11-02-2004, 05:02 PM
so, uh, im thinking about going if im done by then. how common is body damage at clayton for oh lets say a mid-sized rig about the size of a scout? and yes, i saw jimmy's door.

TxCruzr
11-02-2004, 05:30 PM
How I see it is if you don't want dents and scratches then ride along. People have made it through without any damage but them some have also made it rolling a few times.
Don't worry though, after the first nice dent they start becoming fun :gigem:

so, uh, im thinking about going if im done by then. how common is body damage at clayton for oh lets say a mid-sized rig about the size of a scout? and yes, i saw jimmy's door.

His door was by far the worst body damage of the day. I screwed up my quarter and rear bumper because I inverted a shackle and couldn't turn, then I did the left front fender in when I inverted the same shackle later that day. Then after that, I ripped a front left brake line off, sheared a centerpin on the passenger side, and ripped the exhaust pipe clean off the motor on the driver's side. Needless to say Lurch and I had a slow drive back to camp that night. Would I do it all again? Hell yes! A scout isn't too terribly large for Clayton, it just requires a little more refinement in your driving than what a jeep would.

i was on a s10 site and saw pics of disney and the pics that were taken were pretty open rock step ups and a lot of like tight deep crevaces and those rocks look way jagged, it was a s10 with fullwidths and 38's with less lift than mine and he seemed to have little body damage other than on the rockers...i dont know

AgDieseler
11-03-2004, 08:49 AM
Hey, I went there, and came back with only a shredded tire to add to the damage list. However, I didn't wheel hard at all.

With enough patience, a damn good spotter, and a very good driver I believe that you can wheel pretty hard and come out with only some of natures pinstriping. Broken parts is another thing though. That just happens, so be prepared.

I even managed a dent in the old Yota...
http://www.offroadrepublic.com/gallery/view_photo.php?set_albumName=albun44&id=aaa

Also - there's a reason Busa built a flatbed - too many dents on the old one...
His Toy, Matt Mareks Toy, Jason Mareks Toy, Brandons Scout (it used to be straight) Pretty much everyone I know has come out with a few dents.

Only the first dent hurts - it's best to get it out of the way on an early wheeling trip so you can have fun the next time you take it out :gigem:

only dent i got running snake pit and power line in the middle of the night with a broken hub due to and incomp. jackass, overactive procraption and no gas was when lissa drove into the back oh me while trying to give my shatty starter at the time a jump in the pitch black while a 1/2 a mile behind the rest of the group... it was my first dent.... but im not bitter about it :flipoff2:

my first dent was on my roof... it came along with a fender and well the whole passanger side... but is ok... i made the other side match the next day with some trees... it wasnt in clayton though so i guess dents have snaked this thread

Foley said i can borrow his trailer that weekend, so if Flem can get project dreidel working i'll be towing him up there...if not, i'll have a trailer spot available for someone...you just have to make it to Dallas. no fullsizes need apply.

Graystroke
11-08-2004, 06:22 PM
Hmmm...the Range Rover may become a trailer queen...and it's paid for 10X over. The last time I was at Clayton was when the old stuff was still open, Powerline, Three-stage, and Busline are the ones I remember. And yes I recieved body damage that resulted in me cutting off the lower quarters and also did a little lumber jacking on lower Powerline. How much gas would a 454 consume on the way up there? May be cheaper than running a diesel!

BigRedFord04
11-08-2004, 06:53 PM
i heard today on the radio that gas prices are on the way down...or at least have fallen some since the election...in other good news (for me at least), i'm only 3 hrs away from Clayton...only cost me a tank each way...a lot cheaper for fuel than i'd planned...more money for  Whoop!

stinger7401
11-11-2004, 01:54 AM
The only reason why the hotel was brought up is because theres about a 90% chance that it will be raining and cold, at least the last 2 or 3 trips in the winter were. I could be wrong but its to cheap not to. $30/4=$7.50 I dont know how that can be cheaper than camping and the good times are at the hotel also ask conlee he should remember, If i remember correctly I only drank one bottle of Jack that night

Nope... still live on campus.... Anyone from San Antonio area going? I live in North Mexico, so I'm not too fond of the 10 hour drive home from Clayton. If I could be trailored by some freakin awesome person, that would be awesome, but if i have to settle for flat tow, i guess that's my only option... of course i'll pick up some gas...

I only have a regular cab and I won't take more than 1 guy and 1 girl or one guy. That means you may have to ride with someone else depending on which friend I bring.

In edit:
This all depends on how well the Stroke pulls and stops this trailer with David's Burban and the Mazda on it. I'm going to do a test run before I make a decision.

I might be able to tow someone from Dallas...

If I go, I'll probably end up staying a few extra days in Plano afterwards, so if you can get back to CS on your own or don't mind leaving your vehicle hitched to my truck for a couple extra days that could work...

DAMMIT. I dont think The Man wants me to wheel EVER. I missed the first two runs b/c of mechanical problems, slept in too late for the third one and now my aunt is getting married on the 18th. No wheeling and too much driving to get ****faced. Feck

The only reason why the hotel was brought up is because theres about a 90% chance that it will be raining and cold, at least the last 2 or 3 trips in the winter were. I could be wrong but its to cheap not to. $30/4=$7.50 I dont know how that can be cheaper than camping and the good times are at the hotel also ask conlee he should remember, If i remember correctly I only drank one bottle of Jack that night
where can someone get a 25 day forecast? Hell, the weather man can't even predict tomorrow's weather. If you know someone that can ask them for this week's lottery #'s. I'll be camping needless to say. PS bring the TAMOR tent for us.

ok, who's gonna camp? Do we want to camp in the ORV area or at the state park down the road? I know there are some good places to camp back in the woods..you just got to be careful not to stumble onto someone's meth lab or Marijuana patch...and I'm not joking either> There are some backwoods MF's up there. I plan on driving up Friday afternoon to Fort Worth and then up from there dragging the trailer and Rover. I figure worse case scenario I can crash in the 'burb. Is there a place to camp where we can pull the trailers and truck's off the road? I'm trying to remember if the road was descent to where some good camping was. Also, David...Why are you towing the burb?
I got go up there and ready the rover...Make sure the battery is charged, fill it with gas and start it! :flipoff2:

There is a hotel, and behind it there is primitive camping for $5 a day. That gets you a shower, too. There are a few hotels in town, and some camping just on the edge of town in Yanush.

Since it will probably be wet and cold like it is every year, I'm in for a hotel. So if there's a list of who's wanting a hotel, put me on it.

Oh, and I'm not towing the suburban, I'm probably towing Joeseph with the suburban.

I have the Kitchenette at the Sardis for Friday and Saturday night. Plenty of room for indoor drinking just in case it's that cold. Here's a link to hotels if anyone needs: http://www.sidekickoffroad.com/Clayton.htm

I got a bunch of little stuff done on the Cruiser this past weekend. Mark was in town, so now almost all of my electronics work (gauges, lights, etc.). It idles normally now which is a plus. All of those little things you take for granted. Thanks Markguiver, I appreciate the help. Andy and Matt were in town also and Brandon almost has a cage now. Next thing you know mine will be inspected and Brandon's won't be a death trap. I know it's a stretch, but it could happen.
