Yes...his 78 Bronco has a front driver's side drop D44.

It can also be converted to 8-lug using either Ford or Chevy parts. I may have easy access to the parts to convert using Ford part (knuckles to hub0, but Chevy stuff seems to be used a lot more since you can also upgrade to 35 spline outer shafts.

Ford parts give you dual piston calipers, and 35 spline chevy stuff is about as much as chromo Ford stuff. i'm pretty sure it can be done, then you can run Dodge or H2 17"s. Bling! :gigem:

(yes, i have a Ford D44 w/ 8-lug chebby outers.....no axle shafts yet....another reason to stay w/ Ford stuff to avoid the PITA of having to run Ford inner shafts and chebby stubs)

honestly i wouldnt recommend those particular Dodge wheels....not only are they hub centric, but they're almost the exact opposite of good offset, part of why Dodge's steer so well.

i am pretty sure kopeki would just weld some crap together and make it work.

well i may be getting a ford 44 from kevin-so i guess i should go w/ ford stuff-booo. newb ?=does ford 8 lug and chevy 8 lug have the same bolt pattern-should right? so what exactly would i need for a conversion. i prob will go with 16x10 rockcrawlers-cheap and lots of backspacing!! thx

yes, its the same bolt pattern. either way (ford or chebby) you need the knuckles out from an 8 lug axle, knuckles, backing plates, spindles, hubs, rotors, and lug nuts. the lockouts are the same. one other benefit of Chebby stuff is that the spindles are the same for 6 or 8 lug, just uses a different OD inner bearing, same outer. not sure if Ford is the same way. 15" rims will fit if you grind the caliper just a bit.

so what 8 lug axle would have all this-a 10 bolt from a 3/4 ton? may be easier to just wait for a 60 to come around???

any 8 lug Chevy or Ford axle.....

Dude, 60's dont just "come around" ***. That is unless you are into parts trucks (like myself) and are always on the lookout for old trucks rusting away in farmers' fields.

robert-yep i know thats why i will be waiting a while

i may just find a 10 bolt and go from there or get parts off a 10 bolt and still get a 44.

thx yall

you cant run a ten bolt cause the diffs on the wrong side, but there are also eight lug chevy 44's like the one i told you about that i know where it is.

There is no chevy driver drop.

been repacking my wheel bearings tonite and thought of another downfall of using chevy stuff...

chevy brakes use a bigger banjo bolt thru the line into the caliper. i just drilled out the fittings on the Ford lines, but had problems with it leaking shortly after the conversion. cant specifically remember what i did to fix it, probably just added another brass washer under the fitting at the caliper...but yeah...not really the RIGHT way to do it. it woulda cost another $40-50 for the two correct brake lines. no problems since then tho.

If you are interested, I have a mid 70's FORD HD 44,8 lug dual piston caliper,
FLAT-TOP knuckle axle that just might be for sale. Also the matching dana 60 rear.

well i may be getting one from a 78 bronco(kevin doyle) but if yours is in somewhat good condition and set up for coils i may just take you up on the offer. already have a 14 rear so dont need the 60. thx

would the outers bolt up to that 78 44
yes. all 44s and 10 bolts...5, 6, and 8 lug alike....that i know of use the same ball joints. steering and brake modifications might be necessary depending on application.
