Along with several mods/add-ons planned for this break, one i was thinking of is building an axle truss for the 8.8 in my bronco. The word on the street is that these axles dont have very strong tubes, and with 37's and soon to come lincoln locker and an empty wallet i am looking for a little extra strenght for my rear end. Has anyone tried this or even seen it done, and could give me some idea on how too go about it, any help would be appreated

10.25

Even with a limited budget, you can find a cheap one.

8.8 is a good axle, but not the best for a fullsize running more than 33s, no matter what you do to it.

well i just put new gears and 4340 moser shafts in it so i kinda gotta hold on to the thing for a while, and when i say empty wallet there is no way i could get a 10.25 then throw a set of 4.56 in it get the drvieshaft shortened and all the other goodies that would have to be done

i've never heard of the tubed being weak, i never had any problems w/ the housing of my 8.8...just the R&P exploding. i have however heard on a few occassions that the tubes will actually TWIST in the center section. its an easy fix....weld up the plug holes.

the main problem your gonna have with that 8.8 is the stock carrier exploading...i blew up three in mine and it is a 2wd on 35's...you need to replace the factory carrier with something else weather it is a limited slip of full detroit...

i was thinking about taken a 1/4in plate and go from the top of the housing to about 18in out on the tubes and shape it up nice so it doesnt look like ****

Here's what i think would look good:
have someone bend you a piece of tube to run from one perch over the pumpkin to the other perch, then cut 1/4" metal pieces to fill in all the gaps between tube and axle (weld a little bit at a time...don't wanna warp that mutha!). Maybe put a few pieces of tube in the front the same way, notched to fit the sides of the pinion, running to the perches, then 1/4" plate filling in the gaps, with some go-fast holes for drainage

get it right. they're called AWD's (a.k.a.- anti-weight distributors)
