i used herculiner, it looks decent just make sure to prep it real good and then apply like 3-4 coats, that stuff aint as thick as spray in liner and can peel up easily if it aint thick enough

I rolled Duplicolor liner in my Jeep because it was super cheap from a friend at CarQuest... I prepped VERY well and applied about 5 coats to everything. It's a super sloppy job to do, but after I finished and got it smoothed out I liked the result.

Most any of the do-it-yourself liners are going to be pretty rough, though. Think 40 grit sandpaper... I hope you don't like driving bare foot too much.

I used duplicolor in the back of my suburban and it sucks. I dont know if I did something wrong but I did 5 coats and its flaking and peeling everywhere. I plan on stripping it out and puting some sound killed down then maybe herculiner on top of it.

ya one good thing about the herculiner is that it doesnt feel like sand paper like the duplicolor, and goes on a lot thicker. just make sure u do it with a fan blowing through the jeep or ull be high as a kite when it is all said and done

The only Herculiner I've ever seen has been courser than any part of the Duplicolor I put down...

i used Durabak in both my bed and cab. the bed is in pretty bad shape but only b.c. of all that has been hauled around in it....and the fact that 1 gallon is only enough for 2.5 coats on a truck bed. the cab ended up getting like 5 coats and has held up really well. only complaint about it is that it stays somewhat tacky in the cab....but only enough to make stuff stick when its hot.

I looked for prices for Herculiner once on eBay and found some pretty good deals. Just a thought. I've heard the Herculiner bleaches out in the sun, but if its going inside your jeep, I don't think you'll have many problems of that nature.

well john(w) the doors are off and the back hatch + side windows so i will be getting plenty of sunlight-really dont care if bleaches all i care about is getting a good layer of anything in that thing

$185 really aint too bad for 2 gallons. i paid $200+ for two gallons of Durabak b.c. they're a little more proud of the colored stuff...black is still $90-100/gal.

I used the duplicolor. The tub was sand blasted, primed, sanded, and then rolled. Its all falling off. Well, the primer's staying on good. I had also put it on one of my F350s, and I sold it 2 months later, but it was starting to peel in some spots.

Herculiner doesn't fade too much. I'd use it, or I liked the stuff Austin used.

Oh, there is a guy that will do lineX at one of the ford dealerships here. He does it on the side for like 150 for a 6 3/4 pickup bed. but its prolly out of your way

I'd recommend one of two things:

1. Spend the little extra to have it done professionally. It's marginally more and the end result is night and day difference. Especially if you're going to have to redo the cheap stuff in a year or two.

2. Save your money and just buy $15 in Rustoleum and just paint it the color you want. It does nothing for sound and heat, but I don't think liner does much more, especially the cheap stuff. Plus it's easy to "update" as you make changes to your rig. Very little to remove and it's nothing to put more back on. Paint is cheap and light also.

I originally wanted to line my Cruiser but have since decided that it's not worth the money. There's tons of other things that are more fun and useful for the money. I did have my truck bed done, and have been really happy with it. It's been torn up and I'm planning on taking it in for the free patching. The truck also takes a lot more abuse in the bed than the Cruiser would, plus it's much more of a "protecting the investment" when it comes to the truck. You may feel the same about your Jeep.

I definitely would recommend against doing the outside. Way too much weight and expense. Plus a pain to modify or patch rock rash.

Cheers.

I second this...you've got bigger fish to fry with that jeep

yeah, but if you dont do it right while you have it apart you'll kick yourself later. thats the philosophy thats kept the scout in peices for so long. its not even running yet and im having doubts about my insulation.

I think your cherry scout (even if it is just a scout :flipoff2: ) and his xj are entirely different animals
